Why watch nature when you can be part of it? With a salty sea breeze on your face settle into a sheltered hollow and you are likely to see seals in the bay below; choughs, fulmers and a hunting kestral in the sky above; porpoises racing the tide and gannets arrowing into the sound. All before you've had time to drain your first cup of tea from your flask - magical!

    Ramsey Island

    Posted by mmm90 4 August 2010

Before embarking, walk along the mainland cliff path from the landing jetty. Breathe in the air, savour the delights of coastal flora and fauna, absorb the views of the island - inclement weather will not disappoint. Feel apprehension seeing the currents surging through the narrow straights, imagine the hardships endured by millenia of inhabitants.
Then take the boat (dependent on the sea conditions). Only now will you really appreciate why this is a special place, a microcosm of all that means 'island'.
