The owners have put their life and soul into the restoration project of this beautiful old house and they have made the wise decision of choosing quality all the way.

The views are stunning, the breakfast excellent and the service second to none. I highly recommend a break away from the hectic life we all lead. I only spent two nights and have come back to Ireland ready for anything. Book ahead as this place is not going to be a secret find for long.

We can't speak highly enough of how comfortable and peaceful it is. It has fabulous views and is a short walk from the spectacular Tarn Hows.

The rooms are luxurious and extremely well equipped with not just TV and internet available but you can choose from a wide choice of music or films streamed straight to your room. We are a little biased because we know two of the owners as friends, but I can honestly say we have never stayed in a better furnished or more welcoming B&B.

I really don't think you'll be disappointed if you try it, and it's probably worth getting in before it becomes well-known and booked up.

They have simply fantastic views.

You can walk from the door on to the fells (my favourite walk, Catbells is just behind the cottages) or to the lake through the wood.

They also have a natural wood-fired hot tub in a small woodland overlooking the valley that you can book by the day - perfect after a long walk.

The cottages are clean and warm and run by a family who live just a minute away.
Perfectly understated and calmly organised, The Samling remains intimate even on its busiest days. Where larger luxury hotels are loudly decked with people, The Samling seems to swallow its guests into every nook and cranny of a carefully managed estate.

Once in its grasp, this estate holds you close and loses you to subtly changing views and timeless simplicity. There you can sit frozen, forgetting what it was drove you through The Samling's gates until eventually you stir and shift towards the dining room and where the best food is served by the best people.

The hotel also has some tenuous link to Wordsworth but frankly, who cares?
