The Mill Garden

Posted by MaxReger 21 May 2011

The Mill Garden was created by the late Arthur Measures at his cottage in Mill Street, Warwick, under the walls of Warwick Castle. Today it offers a modest yet very beautiful haven away from the racket of the town's virtually continuous through traffic. The garden is bounded by the river Avon which curves away from the foot of the castle, under the ruined 14th century bridge, and within sight of the castle's mill wheel. There is a great variety of plants (some of which are for sale) and the lawns run down to the banks of the river.
The garden is open to visitors every day from April to October. A modest entry charge is requested, the proceeds of which are divided between maintaining the garden itself, the National Gardens Scheme and 35 other charities.

They take original vintage garments, rescue, re-work and update them to create unique one-off garments. And they source and sell gorgeous, wearable vintage, everything from 1940s garments to 1970s leathers and retro items.

The Bluebell, Henley in Arden

Posted by JaneHarrington 21 September 2007

Had several very good sunday lunches at The Bluebell - in addition to the normal menu they have one of the best Sunday roasts I have ever eaten.

But there is more to The Bluebell than just the wonderful food, the building is all old timbers and very higgledy-piggledy, service is always very friendly and cheerful - not at all snooty and best of all they serve Cloudy Bay (the most wonderful NZ Sauvignon Blanc) by the glass - my favourite!

Avon Guest House

Posted by Juniper7 13 September 2007

I grew up in Warwick and the three best things about it were (indeed I think still are) the pizzas at Piccolinos, the Castle and the best local park ever, St Nicholas's.

Avon Guest House is a lovely bed and breakfast 5 minutes' walk away from all three, making it perfect for families. Run by a lovely couple who are really welcoming and knowledgable about all the local attractions and the sights to be found a short bus/train/car ride away (Stratford-Upon-Avon, The Cotswolds).

It's chintz-free and more like a hotel than a standard B&B. I had one of the best nights' sleep on a super comfy bed and woke up to the smell of bacon frying downstairs - heaven. They also do the most perfect scrambled eggs (apart from my boyfriend's!)
