Cobbled streets, tiny whitewashed cottages tumbling down to a massive expanse of beach, seagulls wheeling - Robin Hood's Bay is a haven of peace. Walk along the cliffs towards Ravenscar, shimmering in the distance, the moors rising above the headland, cloaked in heather. Stroll back along the sands, where there are rock pools and fossils - a happy hunting ground for grown ups and kids.
The light is pearlescent - and the fish & chips at The Bay Hotel very good indeed.
I recently went to Whitby for a short break with my husband and two children. We rented a really lovely cottage from an agency called Marmadukes. It was a really lovely period conversion and very well maintained and comfortable. It was great to have a bit of luxury rather than the usual basic rental style of property, and the price was very reasonable considering!
It is worth queuing for an hour to get in here. Unbeatable! The local authority were proposing to fine people for blocking the pavement! I'd happily become a "criminal" to eat here.

It is the coolest (honestly it is!), eco friendly, low impact, bohemian campsite with 9 vintage caravans set in 20 acres of north Yorkshire national park with woods, streams and wildlife.
Can take couples and groups of up to 16 for romantic or special occasions. Each caravan is decorated with retro items and collectables and has comfy beds with vintage eiderdowns. The site has hot and very romantic showers and is lit with lanterns. It has outdoor fires and a tipi and canvas marquee as lounges
I can recommend it and it has a great customer comments book!

Trencher's is a fantastic fish and chip restaurant. It isn't a takeaway - you eat in. The fish and chips are fantastic. Obviously you can't go to Whitby without having fish and chips at least once and I recommend here.

This tapas bar/Spanish restaurant has fantstic food, wine, service and ambience, all for a very reasonable price. Booking is essential as it’s small. We (4 of us) had a fantastic meal with wine for about £100.
