Wannado City, Fort Lauderdale

Posted by AndreaAC 14 February 2007

Wannado City in Fort Lauderdale Florida is a whole city created for kids where they can become adults for the day and get a job and earn money or 'wongas' as they call it. My daughter was a model whilst my son had a stint at being a fireman, doctor and a cook. They earn money at the city which they can spend on treats for themselves or pay into the bank. This is a great educational but enjoyable day for children and quite fun for adults to.

Bahia Cabana Beach Resort & Marina

Posted by parismec 20 September 2006

The Bahia Cabana is both a hotel (Days Inn) and bar on the south end of Ft. Lauderdale beach. My recommendation is more about the ambiance of the tiki bar than the accommodation, so don't go staying there based on my comments! "Beach Resort" is a stretch if you ask me.

However...

It is truly one of the last remaining, typical Ft. Lauderdale beach bars. Famous for their "rum-runner" drinks (ok, who isn't?) it also is a relaxing and fun atmosphere to wind down your day. Sitting alongside Fort Lauderdale's largest boat marina, you can watch the day come to an end as people bring their boats back in, unload their fish (or suntan lotion) and discuss very easily with the locals.

If you go to their website, it looks like a dump I have to say, but do stop and have one drink if you're in the area. I guarantee you'll stay for two!

Backpackers' Beach Hostel

Posted by fluffgoddess 29 March 2006

This is a really cheap, fun place to stay in Fort Lauderdale, two minutes from the beach (you just have to cross the road). Although it looks a bit dodgy from the outside, the staff here are really friendly and I had a fantastic time when I went. I met tonnes of really nice people who really made my holiday!
It's on a busy street but that means you have two bus routes at your disposal, the bus is ultra-cheap too at $2 for a day-pass. It's also near the inland waterway where you can get on the boat-taxi - beautiful views of expensive mansions all the way to downtown.
