Posh hotels for less. I've used this website on several occasions to book hotels in New York and San Francisco (booking service available for hotels across the US). It generally beats the competition on price - unless you're looking for a flight/hotel deal.

    Asia de Cuba

Posted by sneha 12 September 2005

A hip New York restaurant serving delicious Asian-Latin fusion food. The dishes are made for sharing, which allows you to try a few things. The staff are brilliant and are happy to make suggestions that will suit your dietary requirements, etc. Finally, the decor is great and the atmosphere electric.

    Gramercy Tavern

Posted by trellis 11 September 2005

Fantastic restaurant, where we had our best, and possibly priciest, meal ever. The highlight was the Sea Urchin Mille Feuille. Lovely, comfortable rooms with attentive but not intrusive staff. We booked by e-mail from the UK.

    Balthazar Restaurant

Posted by JulieMorgan 7 September 2005

Tucked down Spring Street, this little brasserie is a great place to rest your weary feet after a hard day's shopping in Soho. It's pricey and you may have to wrestle for a table or a space at the bar but the Bloody Mary's are worth it!

    Trump Towers

Sod it. If you're going to break the bank, you might as well have a laugh doing it. At around $700 a night you'll need a sense of humour. Right on top of Central Park, it is in a great location. There are nicer hotels, I'm told, but none that give you quite so many bragging rights.

    The View Lounge/Restaurant

Posted by scriv 11 September 2005

A revolving rooftop cocktail lounge/restaurant with absolutely stunning views over Manhattan. The full revolution takes about an hour and is particularly magical at night whilst enjoying a cocktail in style - not cheap, but well worth it - and the sensation of sitting inside a panoramic postcard of Manhattan. Particularly enjoyable if you are nosy is peering into the rooms of a high rise residence as you pass by...

At the top of the Marriott Marquis Hotel, Times Square, Midtown Manhattan. Access via the lift in the main lobby

    Soho House New York

Posted by emilybell 8 September 2005

A branch of the London members' only club and sister hotel to Babington House, this is a very expensive downtown option which is not for those who like formal service, trouser presses and in-room IT support. Having said that the rooms, even the small ones, are fantastic in terms of size for New York and the rooftop pool terrace is a brilliant place to sit and watch the Hudson go by.
