Unique setting and ambiance. Unlike any other B&B you have ever tried. Convenient to the Pt. Reyes national seashore, and described as a "treetop fantasy" in a write up in the travel section of Time Magazine.

    San Bruno mountain park

Posted by abbotlau 15 August 2006

A county park that bisects the peninsula south of the main city, San Bruno mountain is accessible by car and has loads of walking and biking trails. The Saddle Trail goes through woods and leads to fantastic views of the city.

It's particularly convenient for the airport, which is why if you've got a couple of hours to kill before or after a flight it's a great antidote to the stress of air travel. Parking is $5.

    Bernal Hill Park

Posted by MrJonez 19 July 2006

Great for dogs and humans alike. 360 degree view from this centrally located gem. Bring your walking shoes as you might be tempted to explore some more! It also overlooks the kid-friendly neighbourhood of Bernal Heights. I'll leave that up to you to check out.

    Ina Coolbrith Park

Posted by asitravel 18 July 2006

A small park on Russian Hill with fabulous views over North Beach, Financial District and Bay Bridge. Peaceful and quiet, you'll usually share it with a few folk up from Chinatown doing their Tai Chi. Just over the hill - between Vallejo and Green (for those who know their Tales of the City) is supposed to be macondry lane - complete with wooden steps. Named after a poet.

Such a restful place in the city. With beautiful landscaping and sculptures, this place is a real haven of peace and quiet. We only wished we'd got there earlier in the day (we arrived about 20 minutes before closing) so we could have taken green tea in the cafe, although it was more sparsely populated late in the afternoon.

A great film by Judy Irving, a Sundance and Emmy Award winning filmmaker. It's about, well, the wild parrots of Telegraph Hill. They are cherry-headed conures, also known as red-masked parakeets, an indigenous species from Peru. They have been also spotted farther east on Embarcadero Plaza.

    Golden Gate Park

Posted by Sandracirera 14 July 2006

Golden Gate Park – you could literally spend days there. A good idea is walking from the Eastern to the Western end, stopping off on the way to check out a few highlights, like the flower conservatory, Japanese Tea Garden (as featured in Memoirs of a Geisha) and the De Young museum. Your reward at the end: the waves of the Pacific and the Beach Chalet, a restaurant/brewery where, if you time it right, you can have dinner with lovely sunset views over the ocean.

    Yerba Buena Gardens

Posted by PaulandUmbareen 9 July 2006

Yueba Buena Gardens are situated opposite the Museum of Modern Art. After a little culture you can while away a couple of hours in these very tranquil gardens. Our two-year-old loved the waterfalls. Make sure you go across the bridge to the children's play area. It is sunk into the ground with really imaginative playgrounds, free equipment to play with and a wonderful puppet shop.

    Stow Lake, Golden Gate Park

Posted by casinosoul 17 July 2006

Beautiful lake right in the centre of Golden Gate Park. Hire a rowboat for about five bucks, and make nice lazy progress around the central island, perhaps stopping to pick blackberries on the way. Of all the things I did whilst in SF, this was the most relaxing and idyllic.

Muni (the municipal railway) offers connections to the park from transit stops throughout the city. See their pdf for more information: www.goldengateparkconcourse.org/docs/2005%20Muni_GoldenGatePark_Brochure.pdf
