    Bristol Slow Food Market

Posted by BillWren 3 January 2007

The world's only regular Slow Food Market. Held at St Nicholas Market on Corn Street on the first Sunday of every month, the market features stalls of fresh, local food of the very highest quality.

Now the largest food market in Bristol, its undoubted highlights include artisan bread from the Thomas Bakery, the lush Chocolate Workshop, top juices from St Nicholas Market stars The Big Banana, the almost legendary Pieminister Pies, Ginger Gallery's sensational brownies, organic meats, locally grown veg and much more.

This is the place to find out what south west food is really all about.

    Updates
The meat stalls are excellent - from Brown Cow's amazing beef (darlings of Rick Stein's Food Heroes programme) to Fishleigh (lovely people, with a wide selection of different meat and really good and unusual sausage varieties) and not forgetting the Game On - and learning how to skin pheasants. Chitcombe do lovely poultry too, and there's now air dried meats - mmmmm!

Another huge reason to go is the seasonality. Charlton Orchards have an amazing list of apple varieties that change as the season progresses and I can't wait until the first ones arrive in August!

Oh, and the cheese selection is astonishing.

All in all, we really look forward to the family trip to the market and come away with heavily laden bags, but lighter pockets.
