Very nice rolling countryside, interesting towns, established bike routes which show our own up.

How did you manage that? Berlin is on the Spree, the Elbe is quite some distance away. I do agree though, the countryside between Hamburg and Berlin is quite stunning. For a real trip through very varied countryside and Germany's history, try cycling along the Elbe from Hamburg to Dresden, or even carry on along the Vltava to Prague.
