Great place, wrong location, Joe's cafe bar on Oldham Street is a little gem lying in the mud.
Decked out in leather sofas and dark wood tables it could fall into the trap of being yet another Bar 38 or Pitcher & Piano but it's all saved by well cooked food and service that just falls neatly into place.
Get in there and pretend you're in St Anne's Square. It's just as far, as owld Will Mossop would no doubt pipe up.
Oldham Street
Yeah yeah, corporate bad, eclectic good. Gotcha. TNQ has its gems for sure - I was just highlighting one whilst chucking in a small literary nod to being proud of such areas.Send your feedback or queries to been.there@guardian.co.uk

If you're in the northern quarter, stray beyond Oldham Street - the 'mud' as it's called here - and find plenty more wondeful places (not Joe's) on Thomas Street - Love Saves the Day, Vox Pop, and, if you're willing to explore just that little further you'll find what is most probably the best cafe/shop/gallery/music store in the world, OKLAHOMA!
You will never go anywhere else once you've discovered this place! Wonderful menu and the best table ware ever - plus the most eclectic decoration ever - like some boudoir kasbah bohemia on acid! Let me tell you, it's far better than drab Joe's! As for St. Anne's Square (you corporate person you - Starbucks, McDonalds and even a Disney shop!) it's best avoided really!
