    Le Serghi

Posted by johnpaulghetto 16 August 2007

The harbourside in St Martin is crammed full of restaurants, but this was the best we found by a long chalk. It catches the evening sun longer than many others too!

Inventive food impeccably cooked, decent wine list with many charentais wines chosen. It's generally more considered and less frenetic than some of the other more classic tourist-traps on the waterfront.

Le Serghi would be the one restaurant on the St Martin's harbourside that I would avoid. We visited based on the review above despite the fact that we thought it was significantly overpriced compared to every other venue. Very disappointing service - slow, and lack-lustre, despite the fact that we were speaking flawless if basic French. Fish is the thing on the Ile de Re yet Le Serghi offered only tuna - for no fewer than five of the first course or main course options! If you are after good fish and great service head straight for L'Embarcadere.
