    Desi Khana

    Posted by Mash007 6 September 2007

Proper desi food. This is probably one of the best restaurants in the Balti Triangle as it's been christened.

It's balti food aimed more at brown people - of which I am one, so when you pop in you will see the place is usually rammed full of desi families.

Worth going just to check out the chairs.

No Chicken Tikka Massala here. Just proper Kashmiri cusine. I recommend the Achari Chicken with Chilli naan bread.

Only downside is that the portions aren't great.

I've been a regular at Saleem's for over 30 years and always been disappointed wherever else I went. Until Desi Khana. Wonderful food, albeit more expensive. Portions are actually huge - I haven't eaten more than I intended to for years. But I did after visiting here on Saturday! Excellent.

Parking difficult as it's on a main road and red route.
The decor is basic, spartan but passable - chairs ethnic hardwood, however not amazing.
I found the food very poor - chappal kebabs, heavy and uncomfortable. The main course of ahari lamb and chicken jalfrezi were both poor. Overcooked, lacking colour and taste and they appeared burnt and lacking the essential in Asian cooking - the tomatoe.
However the mango shake was excellent.
We had to leave all the food and gasped at the bill. We're asians and must advise other desi's to avoid this establishment until the chef learns cooking isn't burning and tomatoes are available less than 20 yards away at the grocers.
