    Khandoker

I've only ever had great meals and service in this restaurant over the last 20 years. Mr. Khandoker is a bit of a local institution largely because of the amazing amount of charity work he does. Go.

Went there a couple of years ago and had a great meal so when friends from London visited this weekend I wanted to give them the northern curry experience. Everyone had been talking about the new refurbished Khandoker. However, it was very disappointing for those of us interested in world cuisine - asking the waiters or even Mr Khandoker himself gained us no further detail as to which spices were in which dishes - most dishes labelled with 'with the usual spices'! We felt crammed into the restaurant (too many tables) and had the feeling that the waiting staff were doing their best and were probably being paid a pittance for their efforts. Obviously depending on returning clientele who want a quick curry.

When the bill came we noticed that there was an extra addition of naan breads which we had not received, despite reminders and, when questioned, Mr Khandoker, with absolute glee, informed us that we had, nevertheless been undercharged by £10 and this was added on to our bill! There was a nasty aftertaste to our experience - one of cattle/herding us in and out/squashing us in etc all for money-grabbing reasons. Mediocre food, impersonal service and very nasty owner! Curry for the masses. Will never go back!
