A nightclub/alternative art gallery/run-down building. It has a silly number of bars, sofas on the roof, films projected onto the opposite building and old cars to sit and drink in. Popular with laid-back locals & travellers.

By the sounds of it this is Tacheles. It used to be a department store, I think, and got taken over by artists and squatters in the nineties. It became such an attraction with tourists and locals alike that the authorities were forced to embrace it and leave them to do their thing. A Guy Called Gerald and Peaches are among the various cool types to have spaces in the building.Send your feedback or queries to been.there@guardian.co.uk
