Zaton is a village in southern Croatia, located on the coast of the eponymous bay, on the Dubrovnik Riviera, 8 km northwest of Dubrovnik, next to the village of Orašac. Chief occupations are farming, viticulture, olive growing and tourism. Zaton is located on the main road (M2, E65).

Zaton has several fine restaurants. It offers possibilities for watersports. An interesting walk uphill to the village of Podbrezje is highly recommended (4.5 km), to visit Mociljska Cave with stalactites and stalagmites.

That night the wind returns, our crisp packet-like tent is blown asunder all night long. Zaton, posh, exclusive and not for us. A bowl of fish soup seemed reasonably priced at three Euros but it was basically a thin small bowl of water with five, yes I counted them, grains of rice included and not one bit of fish. This was the cheapest thing on the menu. Zaton is for the gilded few who want to avoid the crush of Dubrovnik. It is very beautiful, and very posh.

Stikovica is a magical spot, fantastic scenery and the real deal compared to the touristic Dubrovnik. It's a small beach where the locals hang out, very friendly and welcoming and a great bar right on the beach. Not a wild spot, but somewhere to go if you feel like rubbing shoulders with the locals. The bar doubles as a restaurant as well and the french fish there is amazing and excellent value.
Visited there in 2006 and can't wait to go back...
