    The Secret Garden B&B

Posted by suzyhoddy 8 April 2008

The Secret Garden is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are comfortable, very clean and set within a beautiful tropical garden. The Inn is located a five-minute walk away from the main centre of Puerto Iguazu and a two-minute walk to the end of the road to get the public bus to the Argentinian side of the Iguazu Falls, Foz do Iguacu (Brazil) and Ciudad del Este (Paraguay).

The proprietor of the Secret Garden is John Fernandes, an incredible chap who makes you feel welcome and is extremely interesting to talk to. Every night John hosts a 'Sundowner' with scrumptious caipirinhas and bruschettas, a fitting end to each day after seeing the beautiful Iguazu Falls. Its also a pleasant way to meet other people and pick up good tips on seeing the falls.

John will also sort out any transport that you need and has some very good recommendations of local places to eat and drink. He arranged for us and another couple to visit the Brazilian side of the falls, a brilliant wildlife park and Ciudad del Este!

There is no better way to stay and see the falls!

We stayed with John this October 2009 as a result of a recommendation by a friend who had stayed a previous year. The recommendation was totally justified and I completely endorse the comments already posted by "suzyhoddy". John has the knowledge and contacts to help you get the most out of your stay however short and he is a perfect host.

We stayed with John in November 2009, after reading positive feedback on Secret Garden on the web. John was really helpful, organising a driver for us so that we could visit both sides of the Falls and recommending some good restaurants in the town. The bruschettas and caipirinhas were delicious. We would definitely recommend staying here.

We stayed with John this December 2009. We completely agree with the comments posted. John took us for a tour of the area, gave us a good sense of where everything is, showed us where to eat (it is better on the Brazilian side), and was our gracious host for two days. John is simply a wonderful person that we had the privilege of meeting.

Indeed, when you go to Puerto Iguazu, you should you at John's place. We completely agree with what 'Suzyhoddy' wrote on 8 April 2008. John is now finishing a photogallery. His place will even become more attractive. Don't hesitate to go there!

Just back from Iguazu Falls and two nights at the Secret Garden, where we had a great time. John's place is pretty basic and rustic, but very, very clean and comfortable. What the SG lacks in amenities (like chocolates on your pillow at night) is more than compensated for in character and fun. Drinks each evening with John and the other guests is a relaxing and fun end to the day and the start of a great evening. John's very intelligent and knowledgeable and his intro tour to the area is great. He helped us to get all of our transportation needs met and our driver, Christian, was also awesome. There's a hole in the wall pizza place around the corner that was cheap and excellent as well. It's the only way to see the falls.

The Secret Garden is indeed a special place. The affable and knowledgeable host, John Fernandes, is always willing to help you with all your plans and problems. The rooms are very comfortable and face a lush subtropical garden. The guests congregate in the evening on the porch and have drinks and swaps stories. The location is perfect for getting to the park - a few steps away, you can jump on the bus that goes directly to the main gate. Iguazu Falls are incredible, and combined with the Secret Garden, our stay was magical.
