    Le Cafe du Commerce

Posted by bandjmaylin 17 October 2005

Dine in the open under the stars in this former drapers shop. The sliding roof is almost as good as that in the Millennium stadium, and the very French and inexpensive food isn't half bad too.

51, rue du Commerce, 15th arrond. Paris. Metro: Emile Zola

This is seriously good wine and dine at very good prices in a great atmosphere. They specialise in beef from Limousin. I had a grilled veal kidney - yes the whole thing - pink and delicious. Colleague was ecstatic over a beetroot veloute followed by stuffed veal breast. Delicious Bourgeuil (light Loire red, possibly mis-spelt).

Having eaten at Simpsons-in-the-Strand the night before just served to underline the quality and value of the cooking, the wine and the service at this place. Booking doesn't seem important. It manages to be simultaneously huge (400-ish covers) and intimate.
