Take the excellent bus service from the Caixas de Sol bus station. The bus stops and turns around outside the museum.

Forqueta nestles in the heart of the mountainous winemaking region of Caixas de Sol in southern Brazil. Established for over a century the local vineyards are still worked by fourth generation winemakers and their families. Forqueta offers a warm welcome to visitors and locals alike, and is perfect for a couple of days exploring, tasting the locally grown produce and learning about the region.

Most of the vines grown in Forqueta were transported from Italy over a century ago and at the Silvestri vineyard the great granddaughter of the original winemaker will give you a detailed tour of the family’s vineyard, proudly show off the natural irrigation system and insist you sample the full product range.

A visit to the Wine Cooperative Museum is essential to fully appreciate the evolution of the wine industry in Forqueta. A lovingly restored exhibition of historical winemaking memorabilia, tools and machinery gives a real feel for the history and development of Forqueta winemaking. Here, the charmingly ebullient hostess will insist you each have a bottle of ice cold Chopp De Vinho – reminiscent of a popular 1980’s Italian fizz – followed by as many tastings as you can manage! After this generous hospitality you end up buying too many mementos and bottles to fill the suitcases, giving you the perfect excuse to make new friends and share your spoils!
