    Sevilla Tapas Tours

Posted by alejna 7 July 2010

A high point of my visit to Sevilla was a tapas tour with the woman who writes the Sevilla Tapas website. Not only did we get to try some really delicious food, but we got to see some truly charming tapas bars, each with its own unique character.
It was a real treat to be with someone who really knew her way around Seville's confusing maze of streets, and knew where to go and what to order to have a phenomenal tapas experience.

Having been to Seville and eaten tapas various times now over 30 odd years I was a bit disappointed as the good quality tapas seem to be harder to find. The problem is the tourist traps seem to grow like weeds in a garden. But not speaking more than three words in Spanish we were a bit worried about going deep into the tiny backstreets where no laminated menus in four languages existed. My wife being the smarter and prettier of our marriage
saved the day by arranging a guided tapas tour with a charming Spaniard, Nuria Carmona. We loved the Jamon Iberico which is very different from Jamon Serrano for example. We hit three different taverns that we would never have found and had a lovely time with good food and learned about the very different Spanish perspective on life. This was a private tour and well worth it! we found Nuria via www.MagicalSpain.com

    Bon Apetit!

Shawn's tapas tour comes with the highest possible recommendation. She will customise the tour according your palate (vegetarian, fish-loving, etc) and your preferred style of venue (traditional, modern, busy, calm, etc).

She is a charming, knowledgeable and discreet guide, and her tours are ideal for couples and small groups.

Shawn also gave us restaurant recommendations and other help and advice that went way beyond what we had paid for.

Shawn’s (Azahar) tapas tour on our first night made eating out in Seville key to the success of our holiday. We cut straight through the tourist learning curve and gained top local knowledge on the ideal tapas bars for our palettes. Shawn took us out as a small group of three which felt intimate and special. Shawn’s recommendations for other tapas across Seville made exploring on later nights all the more fun. Shawn also kindly set up dinner at a recommended restaurant for our last night where we were spoilt rotten by the restaurateur. Shawn’s impartiality and honesty also helped to keep the tour current and fresh. The tour was tailored to our expectations around what we wanted to gain from the evening, and clearly each tour is individual and well considered. Thoroughly recommended.

Another option for tapas in Seville is this self guided tapas tour I found on my recent visit. I went to visit a friend who is studying in Seville and she had bought us each a tapas passport that allowed us to go to 8 different bars that each gave us a tapa and a drink for only 2,30! It was a fun and really cheap way to try tapas in seville... and I liked them all! After 8 bars you are definitely full, but it was worth it!
