    Getting from the Airport

Posted by Dwright 1 December 2005

Alongside the fast but expensive CAT train, there is an ordinary stopping train to the centre of Vienna (same station as the CAT) that costs far far less. Ideal unless you're in a real hurry, but you have to look for it at the airport (follow blue signs to trains, not the CAT green ones).

If you don't want to take the CAT train, the next best option is the coach rather than the ordinary train. It's faster and cheaper, and drops you at Landstrasse station close to the centre.

The slow train takes 10 minutes longer than the bus, but at €3 costs half the price (or a quarter if you also have a 24-hour, 72-hour or
weekly travel pass). It is also more flexible than the bus, in that you can get off at other stops in the city as well as Landstrasse (where the stop is called Wien Mitte).

Be aware that the airport is outside the city zone and you must buy two single journey tickets - now €1.70 each. These trains are subject to ticket checks 80% of the time.

However, the journey time is only marginally longer than CAT - highly recommended.
