    Dilli Haat

Posted by PhilSen 9 January 2006

Though the annual Pragati Maidan Trade Fair is much larger, and you can find far better quality at the Cottage Industries Emporium on Janpath, this little corner of Delhi is open all year round and is still a great place to come for gift shopping at fair prices. What’s more, it’s a good chance to sample a wide range of regional cuisines from Kashmiri to Bengali at the safe, well-run yet cheap food stands.

Compared with Pragati Maidan, the shops in Dilli Haat are much more vibrant and stock better products. The shops are leased to craftsmen on a short term basis, so the merchadise on offer changes frequently.

Bargaining is normal, and as long as your opening offer is reasonably fair, you'll not walk away empty handed.

The food stalls are very good, and very economical. Locals visit frequently, sometimes just for the food.
