Common sense is the key. Keep valuables out of sight, don’t stand on street corners reading maps/looking lost and confused and like a tourist and you should be fine (hopefully).

If you own Rolex/Omega watch etc and really, really need to know the time - leave your watch along with any other "bling" in the hotel safe and buy a lookalike for around 5 real (about £1.25).
