After a morning trawling through KaDeWe and the other department stores, this was a real breath of fresh air. An excellent organic food market, with more besides, it gave me an early glimpse of the real Berlin and Berliners, strolling around on a late autumn afternoon. Highly recommended.

Every self-respecting Berliner and "Wahlberliner" knows that Kollwitzplatz is the highwater mark for all that has changed and is possibly wrong in Berlin: urban gentrification of the east, rocketing property prices and the accompanying influx of thirty and fortysomething west German professionals (typically architects and lawyers) at the expense of the fomer communities.
Anyone who considers a morning trawling through KaDeWe rounded off with a brief trip to Kollwitzplatz as being somehow typically Berlin would probably consider daily trips to Harrods as being the norm.
