The Chinese and Japanese Gardens are beautiful, peaceful, spacious and, usually free of other tourists. Open daily. Small admission charge.
On the MRT take the East West Line (westwards) to 'Chinese Garden' EW25.
The Japanese Garden is currently closed for refurbishment. The Chinese Garden is still worth a visit, especially in the evening this month when there are fantastic illuminations for the Lantern Carnival. Permanent features of the garden include a display of magnificent bonsai specimens, some 150 years old or more, and a tortoise sanctuary run by an enthusiastic volunteer.Send your feedback or queries to been.there@guardian.co.uk
