    If you are a fan of Bulgakov's cult classic novel, The Master and Margarita, then this is an essential visit when in Kiev. Bulgakov's house has been preserved as this small museum. However, true to the spirit of his writing, not all is as it seems...

    Better for Kiev, buy Bulgakov's The White Guard about civil war in Kiev seen from Bulgakov's house. Take it with you and read it on Andreysky Spusk and then visit the house museum. Pay for the spoken guided tour and not just the look-around. If you get the guide I had, you will well value the difference For more modern Kiev life take an Andre Kurkov book along with you too and read it down the bottom of the hill in Podol.
