Little can beat floating down the Seine when your aching feet have had enough. Try Bateaux Mouches, which leave from the Pont d’Alma, and Bateaux Parisiens, which pick up from near the Eiffel Tower. Both are packed in summer, but they do give you the best possible view of the world's most handsome cityscape.
I think Bateaux Mouches is the better deal. So long as you get someone who speaks French to book it for you. The trip, food, ambience and service is faultless. Do remember to pack a tie, shirt and jacket. No jeans or trainers or else you will end up in the end boat with similar attire. It is well worth dressing up for. A once in a lifetime treat. Even if you cannot get the excellence menu the prestige menu still gives you a table for two with window seat. Not guaranteed with Bateaux Parisenes. Bataux Mouches have been doing this for longer and better, according to the feedback I checked before I booked.Send your feedback or queries to been.there@guardian.co.uk
