    Naz Wooden House Inn

Posted by svenborg 17 February 2006

This is a lovely, reasonably priced hotel located in Sultanahmet (the old town). It is a wooden Ottoman-style house with only seven rooms, which are all furnished with wooden Turkish furniture. It has a roof terrace from which you can see both the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofia.

The breakfast is very good - buffet style with plenty of things to choose from: yoghurt, different types of bread and pastries, olives, sliced meat, eggs and cheeses. Istanbul is a fantastic place to visit - and whatever you don't miss the Aya Sofia which is far more impressive (on the inside) than the Blue Mosque.

On the basis of this recommendation we booked this hotel. We were met at the airport by the hotel [cost E20 which was a good service]. We were not transported to Naz Wooden House. Were driven to another hotel where we met the Reservations Manager who told us [emphasis on told] that there was a plumbing problem in our booked room, so we could not go to Naz WHI. We would instead be taken to their 'sister hotel.' At 0200 hrs we had no energy to fight. The sister hotel showed us to a room where the bed had no bedding, and it deteriorated from there.

In the morning we asked to be taken back to their 'sister hotel' - as in the one we had booked - and staff did not know where Naz Wooden House was. Which told us that Naz Wooden House had simply overbooked and passed us off for the night to the cheapest dive in the neighbourhood. We eventually got to the booked destination and when we complained about first night the answer was to force us to go to another hotel which they said was even better than Naz Wooden House and would make up for the poor first night. We were forced to pay the booked rate for the first night less a token E10, and were worn down into going to the other hotel where we did get a better room - had a balcony.

Did funnily also meet some people who were also on a journey of hotel to hotel having been given a version of why they were not to be given the room they had booked. In short, our experience could not have been more in contrast to that described in the original posting above.
