Huge park in the city centre (five minutes walk from Leidseplein). Lovely for walking/lazing/picnicking on warm spring/summer days. Bring your own food/drink or stop in one of the bars for snacks etc.

And every summer (June, July, August) there are open air performances - theatre, music concerts, etc.- held most days of the week, evenings, Sunday afternoon and on a Wednesday afternoon there's a kiddies show (Dutch primary schools finish at midday on Wednesdays) - with bar and restaurant too.
