The pastrami is the best in town, but side dishes can be less trustworthy: chicken soup, for example, is not a good idea here (the place for that is the Carnegie Deli, where the sandwiches are comically, inedibly large, and not as good as Katz's.) Pastrami apart, Katz's functions as a time capsule from another bygone decade, the early fifties at the latest.
