The general advice from locals in Belgrade on eating out is "if you want to eat a proper meal you will need to pay a decent price." Here are some of my recommendations:
Madera on Bulevar Kralja Aleksandra, just by Tasmajadan Park (and with a beautiful view overlooking it). Recently renovated, it’s a huge place, so most probably always has tables available. National cuisine and international.
If you want a more intimate atmosphere "A Klub" (national cuisine but the emphasis is on internatonal) is very posh, fancy, and romantic. It’s next to the Slavija Square, at 17 Makenzijeva Street.
Zaplet on the corner of Kajmakcelanska and Zarka Zrenjanina is similar style to Madera, only cheaper and better. For fancy national and international cuisine try Daka in Dure Danicica.
I have just returned from Belgrade and had dinner at Madera. It is wonderful - the staff were superb, the food good, the wine not bad (we chose local) and the experience altogether great! It must be lovely in the summer when the terrace is open. Prices by London comparisons are currently ridiculously low for this standard of restaurant - think £20 per head for a meal that would cost you nearer £50 here.Send your feedback or queries to been.there@guardian.co.uk
