Alta Mar is right on the harbour front at AguaDulce, 20 minutes from Almeria, nestled among interesting bars (Free Amigos with Peter) and other more touristy ice cream parlours and noisy cafes, it is easy to see the class and quality of its owners and meals.
It's worth a trip for the fantastic mediterranean cuisine, 70 euros for two, the finest Spanish wine, amazing mozzarella salad starter, freshest sea bass which would give Gordon Ramsay a run for his money (and no F-word) and the finest chocolate pudding cooked specially in the oven for 12 minutes.
My mouth waters at returning there, oh, and the most charming Dutch/English owner and free drinks to follow. A find.

My companion didn't believe me when I said the chef would insist on speaking with us before we left and was surprised when he came out for a chat to make sure the meal was okay.
I went for the entrecote and my friend had the swordfish - both done to perfection - we even went back three nights later for another go - this time my friend went for the steak and I had an amazing piece of monkfish in a shrimp sauce.
Couple of tips - the pork kebab and chicken sate are excellent starters but one portion, with a salad is more than enough for two.
If there are a group of you, we had 14 people on one trip - make sure you get your order in first - they don't use frozen meat and if there is only one steak left then there is only one steak to be had.
Excellent food, lovely marina and a talented young chef. If he had a restaurant in Berkshire I would eat there every week.
