    Airport transfer: Taxi

Posted by JohnAglionby 25 August 2005

Taxis are available directly outside arrivals. The hour-long journey to the city centre should cost no more than 25,000 rupiah (less than £1.50). For those on a tighter budget, an air-conditioned bus travels from the airport every 30 minutes, stopping at five key points around the city.

The taxi from the airport to city center costs something more of the order of 80-90,000 rps (9-10 USD). Avoid the touts and head to the Silverbird queue outside if you want a large swank AC taxi, but be prepared to pay closer to 150k.

Taxis cost around Rp100,000 from the airport to the middle of town. The most reliable and safest are Blue Bird Group but if you want to reduce cost take an Express taxi, which also have a high level of service.

Make sure you take a taxi from the official taxi stand and not from one of the many people waiting outside the airport to nab first-timers to Indonesia who will charge you extortionate rates.

This tip really should be removed. There is no way of getting a taxi for 25,000. The airport tax is 8000, the toll road costs about 8000, and the meter is likely to be 50,000 or more. Around 100,000 is more likely but it varies between taxi companies - ones using the old tariff (marked tarip lama in hte window) are cheaper but tend to be rougher.
