    Willow Vegetarian Garden Restaurant

Posted by DebbieC 21 September 2006

This great vegetarian restaurant has been running in Totnes for at least 20 years. It has a warm relaxed atmosphere with some communal tables. In the back, there is a pretty garden and a children's area. There is a great selection of organic, seasonal food, including a large variety of casseroles, quiches, soups and salads at lunch time. There's also wonderful choice of gâteaux, wheat-free munchies and yummy puddings, plus fair trade coffees, teas and a good variety of organic beers and wines. The Willow is open from 10am until 5pm and again in the evening. Wednesday night is curry night (very authentic) and Fridays is live music.

My boyfriend has a severe nut allergy and asked a waitress at Willow if there were any nuts in a soup he wanted. She said no so he ordered it and ate it, only to be told by the chef that it did in fact have nuts in - almonds and pistachios.

We called an ambulance and he was OK but the waitress never informed the chef of his allergy until after he'd eaten it.

The food looked great and it was a shame to miss out on my main course!

Willow is like a little piece of heaven on earth, I'm not sure how I'll ever be able to live elsewhere without getting serious 'Willow food and atmosphere' withdrawal symptoms!
