Largest and last piece of original rainforest left on the island. Walk up the incredibly steep hill (mind the monkeys!) for a fantastic view from the top. Thick forest offers a respite from the high temperatures.
Bukit Timah Road; get the bus toward Malaysia (I think it's the 70 and/or 170), or a taxi.
This writer perhaps went to Bukit Timah some time ago; I was there last week and although there are glimpses of distant views there is certainly no 'fantastic view' from the actual summit, because of the forest growth all round it. It is still a very worthwhile place, but the steps are extremely steep; for anyone short of time or energy I would recommend the MacRitchie Reservoir instead.Send your feedback or queries to been.there@guardian.co.uk
