The Divine bar at Park View

Posted by Whelk 3 October 2006

The Park View building on North Bridge Road has a vast and magnificent neo-Art-Deco bar on the ground floor. A glass cabinet houses the most expensive bottles at ceiling height; if one is ordered, a barman allegedly has to be hauled up on a rope to fetch it.

The bar is open to the public only when it's not being used for business entertainment, so try your luck if you're passing by or phone ahead to enquire.

I can vouch for the 'angel' who is winched up to collect bottles from the upper racks! Visually stunning bar but staff are snotty - get the dresscode wrong and you will be turned away. Men must wear shirts, women closed-toe/smart shoes. Basically business attire! Not a wild night out but nice for a quiet, early drink.

Don't in any way downplay this bar. This is a must-visit bar in Singapore and I have never found the staff anything more than efficient and pleasant.

In my experience, as long as you are dressed respectably, there is not a problem and the bar is open each evening. When a bottle of wine is purchased the charming "angel waitresses" will "fly" to collect the bottle from the tall wine rack.

The architecture is stunning, the ambience wonderful and the acoustics relaxing - all in all, divine architecture.
