Beautiful country house hotel in Scalby Village near Scarborough in North Yorkshire. Attended a small wedding here and it was absolutely stunning. Great rooms, great food, nice wines and some of the most beautiful uninterrupted views of Yorkshire you may ever see!

This is a new five-star hotel just in front of the cathedral and the Giralda. It's super-modern and it has some great stuff inside it, such as a Japanese restaurant, Spanish modern food, a cocktail bar, rooftop terrace with insane views, spa massage facilities, and great service.
If you want to have a rare sheltered yet sunny spot by the beach for tanning or just chilling out, try Tangana as it had everything we needed: food, drinks, kite hire and lessons. You can also rent a bungalow for the week (but I have no idea what they are like).
A short walk up the beach westward, there is also a huge sand dune you can walk up for views.
Its a couple of miles west of Tarifa at Casas de Porro, www.tarifaweb.com/tangana/eng/index.htm . We got a taxi from the Port at Tarifa, it cost about €12 one way.
I recently stayed in a self-catering castle with friends in Scotland. With all the talk of the downturn in the economy, maybe we should consider holidaying within UK and Europe.
A company called Celtic Castles offer castle accommodation all around the UK, Ireland and France. Some have been converted into hotels while others (like Castle Law that I stayed in) are now self-catering properties.
The thing I was surprised about was how little it cost. It worked out at less than 100 pounds per person per night, there are some offers available at the moment so this will be even less now.
Definitely worth considering!
My family and I stayed in an apartment last month with a company called BCN Rentals, and I wanted to recommend them. They were very easy to deal with over the phone (English staff) and email, the apartments were clean and central, and they also organised a minivan to collect us as we had a fair bit of luggage.
I rented an apartment with Pillowapartments on Paseo Joan De Borbón for four weeks in March 2008. The apartment was wonderful, everything first rate. Many things were within walking distance and the metro is the best for access to all other areas. I spent most of my time in the museums and wandering the beautiful neighborhoods around the museums.
A typical market is steps away from the apartment as are numerous fine cafes. The city’s best shopping areas are just blocks away. I found an Asian market within blocks for great vegetarian food. The internet place on the street was great since I left my laptop at home, even though the apartment is wired for access. I can't say enough about management, everyone was so nice to me and so helpful. I will not hesitate to stay again when I come to Barcelona and highly recommend pillowapartments to everyone.
This is a beautiful and B& in the heart of the Lake District. Luxury accommodation and a superb attention to detail make it a weary traveller's paradise. The owners have put their life and soul into the restoration project of this beautiful old house and they have made the wise decision of choosing quality all the way.
The views are stunning, the breakfast excellent and the service second to none. I highly recommend a break away from the hectic life we all lead. I only spent two nights and have come back to Ireland ready for anything. Book ahead as this place is not going to be a secret find for long.

I recently stayed in Barcelona and tried out a holiday rental apartment rather than a hotel. I used a company called Holiday Velvet and they were very efficient and offered excellent support.
Smart, clean stylish apartments in the heart of the El Born district. Friendly service. Very affordable (only 90 euros for a studio). We stayed in a studio next to Santa Maria Church which came with a balcony.

Not only does this hotel have one of the best views and locations, away from the chaos, if you book the club floor you will have your every desire catered for at no cost.
Ostello Gallo D'Oro is a central, pleasant and extremely clean hostel in Florence, owned by the most remarkable couple: Massimo and Silvia.
They drive every aspect of this lovely Florence hostel, and are constantly on hand to make sure that their guests (and you really do feel like a guest rather than a customer!) have everything they could possibly need.
I didn't stay long enough to take advantage of the offer, but long-term guests are invited out to their Tuscan farmhouse for the night.
It was a real wrench to tear myself away.

Secreted in a tiny village between Torquay and Exeter this restaurant is a delight. Using mostly local ingredients to create excellent menus at what - at least to London eyes - are very reasonable prices.

A villa that I rented which is based in Zminj. Closest airport is Pula. It's a one-bedroom villa with private pool, so perfect if you want to get away from it all, but don't want to stay in a hotel.
This is the MOST gorgeous little cluster of villas - my friends and family and I visit it every single summer. It's set in a quaint little Portuguese village, surrounded by orange groves and the owners, Beccy and Ron, are so welcoming. It's only 10 minutes from Faro airport and it has a pool and loads of character. I love the neighbour, Florentina - we always manage to communicate even when I cant speak a word of Portuguese!
Dubrovnik B&B is a small place (five rooms and one apartment only) in the perfect location in Dubrovnik. Just outside of the old city gate of Ploce. Owner is friendly and the rooms are very clean.
Website for self-catering accommodation. Nice properties and you can see availability and prices.
The Timor Sol is situated at the furthest west part of Torremolinos at its border with Benalmadena. I have been visiting these apartments for the last 27 years.
They are clean, have a first class restaurant and bar- they have a vast garden and a large swimming pool. There is always a life guard on duty. The staff are friendly, helpful and conversant in most languages. A large number of staff members have been there for up to 25 years. Even they like the place.
On the Calle Salvador Allende opposite the building there are a row of shops and bars, one of them is Dixies where friendships are formed and renewed annually. The apartments are next to the Hotel Aloha Puerto Sol- one of the best hotels I have ever visited -and I say this as an ex-manager of a Hilton in Scotland.
But what really stands out and makes this area special is its close proximity to many attractions. The marina 100 metres away. The Carihuela area is not to be missed and is within walking distance along a flat promenade ideal for wheelchair users.
Other attractions include the cable car ride to the mountain top. Tivoli World. Trips to Ronda, Mijas, Marbella and Puert Banus are all within easy distance. A fine day trip can be had at Gibraltar or a trip across to Tangier in Morocco.
If you want a holiday that offers you beautiful weather, moderate prices and plenty of places to visit within easy reach, then come to this area and I guarantee you will return.

Hotel and restaurant. Great service and the food is five-star. The toilet had broken in our room - we went to the shops and came back in 20 minutes, and it was fixed.

My friends and I decided to stay at Frangipani Villa for five nights in early December and we had an enjoyable stay.
The small garden was a beautiful, peaceful and relaxing place to sit, chat, eat, or read.
My room had air conditioning, cable tv, internet connection, coffee and tea.
The restaurant served us bread and scrambled eggs, and we could also ask for fried noodles in the morning with no cost at all.
All staff were so polite to guests.
Frangipani Villa is located in the centre and is very convenient to go to the supermarket or other places such as Russian Market, Royal Place etc.
Overall I found this a great stay and would certainly recommend it to other tourists who would like to stay in Phnom Penh.
