Discovering a city? I think by foot is the only way to get a proper idea of a town. That’s why I always try to find a central accommodation.
I chose the Citystay Mitte. A good choice, not only because of the location at Hackescher Markt, an area which seems to be pure Berlin. I was allowed to find hidden places and spaces.

There are hundreds of estate agents along the French Riviera. I have dealt with these in the recent past and my experience was very positive. They are fully registered estate agents, so the buyer is protected.
They don't do rentals themselves but can put you in touch with property managers who can organise a great apartment to rent for a week or so!

If you're looking to book a snowboarding holiday don't fail to look this company up. The company has two chalets in the resort of Morzine, both in fantastic locations.
What I particularly liked were the little touches you don't always get with a bigger company: heated boot warmers, iPod docks and guiding by their sponsored riders to name but a few.
Top food, top location, top people -look them up!
New restaurant (opened Januaary 2008) attached to new 'eco-hotel' Chancileria on Calle Chancileria near the centre of Jerez. Chef Juan used to be a teacher at the local catering college but it hasn't stopped him producing great dishes in the modern Spanish style (good fresh local ingredients, traditional methods, attention to seasoning and detail, beautiful presentation.)
For example 'hamburguesa de cola de toro' - a little timbale of beautifully cooked oxtail off the bone with a perfect apple puree, brilliant combination - mouthwatering. Artichoke soup with foie and truffle oil also fresh and delicious. Main course fish fresh and delicious. Portions sensible size. Desserts looked good but need developing.
Mixed and slightly odd wine list (some good if predictable riojas and also lambrusco(!?) but all very reasonably priced (c.100 euros for an unstinting 3 course meal for two with aperitif and wine and dessert wine and coffee...) Much better than other recommended but more 'traditional' restaurants in the town. Go quick before everyone else discovers it and the prices go up...

They are state-run and organised for us an excellent bespoke itinerary complete with driver for the whole visit - airport and back to airport - for a very reasonable amount of money.
They were always prompt and efficient in all our communications as well as helpful and authoritative. I would wholeheartedly recommend them. Using them and an internet airfare can provide an excellent, reasonably priced holiday in this beautiful state.
A cosy self catering "garden shed" with all mod cons and a sea view to die for.
This accommodation at university residences is only available June - early September. In June 2007 it cost £24 a night for a single room with shared bathroom. It's a beautiful location by Holyrood Park with free car parking, and it takes around 20 minutes to walk to Princes St. The self-service breakfast is excellent.

Cheap especially for a single room. I paid £24 for a single ensuite room. Centrally located, 10 minutes walk from Waverley rail station and Princes St. Breakfast not great, but good if you want budget accommodation with your own bathroom at a cheap rate.

It's right in the centre of the town. It's a new hotel with bright spacious family rooms that sleep up to two adults and two kids. It cost from just £19 a night if you book online on the non-refundable saver rate at least three weeks in advance.

Me and my family have just visited a really nice hotel built into a medieval castle. Only about two hours from Madrid. Amazing landscapes and quiet surroundings. I just didn't want to leave!

We stayed for the whole month of August last year (2007). Fantastic time with our two young daughters (7 and 5). Every day doing different things. If it was hot we borrowed canoes and went for paddle on the river, or just hung out in the cottage's pool. On cooler days we went exploring. We had a car with us, but the train stop is just two minutes' walk away so we often went up to Prague for the day or to visit local castles. Beautiful area, very friendly locals in the pub (and cheap food!), and we managed to see a lot of the country. The place was perfect.
But, not recommended for disabled or elderly. There's a sofa bed in the bedroom downstairs, but to reach the two bedrooms upstairs you need to go up fairly steep wooden steps. No problem for agile people like us (!) and the girls didn't have a single fall during our whole stay, but worth bearing in mind. Also, although the cottage has a bathroom inside, the loo is just outside the front door. No problem in the spring or summer, but I wonder what it would be like in the depths of winter! Although it is under the porch.
All in all, a fantastic place, relaxing, in the countryside yet a short (fun!) train ride into the centre of Prague. Recommended!
Oh! Forgot to mention the bikes! Probably the highlight of our stay. We headed off on rides at least three times a week, sometimes taking the bikes on the trains with us. From the cottage itself there are plenty of options- along the river Sazava, upstream or downstream, into the local town, or up into the forests. Great fun!
And the lovely old people in the next door cottage joined us a couple of times for a barbecue in the evenings. We didn't understand very much, but a nice time was had.
Unique qualities: great views, pool, lots of attention to detail (tourist leaflets, dozens of hiking and cycling maps, board games for children, a collection of DVDs etc).
Very comfortable accommodation with nice clean bedding and firm beds. Small but well-equipped kitchen.
Very quiet surroundings - we had deer coming up to the fence at the back of the garden some evenings! And hares and foxes.
Unpredictable weather - ranging from very hot and dry to pretty cool and showery. But always plenty of things to do and places to visit.

Directions: 30mins by car from centre of Prague. M/way in the direction of Brno. Turn off at junction 21. Follow signs. Very easy to find. By train, 1 hour from Prague main station to Cercany. Then change to a tiny train for a couple of stops. Trains run till late.

Fly to Nimes from Stansted. Hire a car and stay at Atelier des Granges. This is officially a backpackers place, but has double rooms and is a great place for a family. It is also like staying in an art gallery.
One of the best places I have stayed, ever. Very friendly and helped us with the locals and food and great views of the village church on the cliff opposite.
One of the best action adventure trips and at a really low cost you will not regret it. Book it now and do it just before the season opens.

Interlaken is a small town stuck in the middle of the Alps. While backpacking across Europe I inevitably ended up there in the Funny Farm. It's a hostel where you can basically sky dive, bungee jump, hang glide, paraglide, go canoyning and more, all in the same day.
Everything you hear about it sounds terrible: it is located immediately opposite the airport terminal, it is part of a chain and they charge 46 euros for a single (54 for a double). The reality could not be more different. It is less than a year old; the staff are charming and courteous; even if your room faces the runway and you can see the planes taxiing, the soundproofing is so good you cannot hear them take off; if you want to have a picnic in your room the terminal has a couple of quite nice food stores (one with assorted local delicacies) and there is a stall selling seafood snacks outside; and the rooms are spotless, intelligently designed and with flat screen TVs and multiple cable channels. If you are fearing having to stay the night at Hahn Airport (it truly is in the middle of nowhere) for an early departure or late arrival, you are in for a pleasant surprise.

We went to Prague as two couples and booked accommodation in an apart-hotel just off Wenceslas Square - €160 for the four of us for the two nights! The apartment was really nice, clean and more than what we expected or needed. This also included breakfast in the cafe down the road - which is great value - included in the price. It is also very central, we walked everywhere. Approx. 15 minutes' stroll away from Old Town Square, yet close to all the clubs and pubs at night (5 minutes). Would definitely recommend this accommodation and would stay again.

It is just off Wencesles Square - down a lane to the right of Scorpio Restaurant - this is on the Marks and Spencers side of the road and approx. 200/300 metres up the road towards the museum.
Being very interested in the Vatican museums, we decided to find a hotel which allowed me to reach the area in a snap - considering the huge lines that I knew I had to front. I was impressed by Colors Hotel. The staff was helpful in many occasions during our stay. The rooms are not what I'd call top luxury but were nice and clean: my husband has often had strong allergies in hotel rooms, but had no problem at all at Colors.

The Coach House is a stylish self-catering cottage in the Derbyshire Dales. I went there over Christmas with my wife and two young children, and we enjoyed an excellent holiday. The cottage itself is very cosy and there was lots for us to do in the beautiful surrounding area.
