A small family-run place on the outskirts of Trujillo. There are always taxis around so it is not a problem to be out of town. The family are lovely and will help you in any way they can. There is a big supermarket nearby and you can have use of the kitchen.

It is a suburb of Lima that is a lovely old place, has some nice restaurants and gets you out of Lima. A great place to stay. Easy to get into the city from here, but also nice to get away once you have done the sights.
A suburb of Lima
It’s a perfect apartment block/hostel.
Boris, the owner, is really friendly and will meet you from the ferry port. He will happily tell you the best beaches, restaurants, etc. He will also sell you wine grown locally by his family. I bought three litres (it worked out at only about 75p a bottle!) and as he will tell you, it doesn’t taste too hot until the second glass, but then it's actually really nice.
The personal touch in these apartments is really welcomed. Boris seemed to be into providing value for money, and a pleasant experience to the traveler, and not making massive profits.
I went in September 2007 and he was in the process of refurbishing the entire building to a very high standard. The rooms are large, clean, and most look out to the garden that has limes, pomegranetes, oranges, olives etc. He was also about to put in a terraced BBQ in the garden with seating area among the fruit trees.
The apartment's location is about a 5-10 minute walk from the town, and 15 minutes' walk in the other direction to the Zlatni Rat beach (the one in the brochures).
If he suggests you go to a restaurant called Mendula - GO THERE! It’s really romantic, cheapish, and the custom is for the waiter to offer everyone a free drink after your meal. They also have a help yourself salad bar that is free when you order almost everything on the menu. (Be warned though; it’s a bastard to find so get Boris to draw you a map!)

Meadow Park is on the outskirts of the village of Buckland Brewer. It is a beautiful bungalow built by its owners 10 years ago and it has panoramic views over its own farmland towards the distant hills of Dartmoor and Exmoor. Everything is spotless and of a high standard but the main attraction is the peace and quiet.
It's handy for Bideford and Clovelly and the R.H.S. Rosemoor Gardens and is right in the heart of Tarker country. At the end of the Chapple's private road there is the most wonderful 13th Century thatched pub with equally wonderful food and where we were treated like old friends!

Mollies is an amazingly affordable (thanks to the fabulous current exchange rate) luxury hotel.
Our suite ($495 per night B&B [£165 approx], doubles same price), had a mezzanine lounge, and whether sitting on the expansive, comfy corner sofa or at the mosaic terrace table, the harbour across to Chelsea Bay and around the North Shore stretches across the vista. It's a sailor's dream.
Alongside period elegance and modern charm, there's unlimited internet access in the guest library, live opera/ musical performances before dinner, and extreme thought, care and attention put into everything.
It's like stepping into someone's comfortable family home, with extra touches. At night, staff come in and turn the bed down for you, put out your nightgown and slippers, leave lights on for you and light the fire if needed, and leave gifts - scented soaps and night moisturisers beautifully wrapped - for your evening comfort. Food is exquisite and the wine cellar world-class.
Mollies, in short, is faultless.

A beautiful old Tuscan farm at the top of a hill. Great views of the surrounding countryside and the medieval village of Casole d`Elsa. Private garden and swimming pool.
The Old Rectory bed and breakfast is a beautiful old stone building with an unbeatable view of Loch Fyne to wake up to each morning. Hosts are welcoming and friendly. Great pub just up the road that does good beer, food and whisky. It's a perfect place to get away from it all.

Norburton Hall is located in beautiful grounds in the heart of Burton Bradstock (two pubs and The Hive Beach cafe).
The Halcyon Suite is enormous with a bathroom the size of a normal hotel bedroom. The breakfast is superb and catered for all diets (great homemade veggie sausages) and the owner, Karen Venn, is extremely nice and helpful.

This site is great, I was scouring the internet for a good value B&B that didn't have interiors from the 70s and found this little gem.
There are three contemporary B&Bs on the site and rooms start from £65 per room per night for The Alvia Hotel. We stayed at Brighton Wave, the breakfasts were delicious. I recommend their blueberry pancakes.

In Haridwar, we started in the Modi Inn which was fine, but we felt it was a little too noisy and we moved to the Hotel Gayatri Classic just off the main road.
We struck a deal where we paid R600 for a double room, ensuite and air conditioning and this proved ideal for our stay.

In Agra, the Shanti Lodge was ideal. It was close to the Taj and had a rooftop restaurant which had superb views of the Taj.
Staff were efficient and friendly, rooms were clean. We paid R500 for a double room with air con and ensuite.

In Delhi we stayed at the Hotel Kashish which was excellent. This was in the middle of Paharganj within easy reach of the metro, New Delhi train station, a variety of restaurants and all the atmosphere of a bazaar that you could want.
We paid R1000 for a double room, ensuite with air conditioning. I am sure we could have found somewhere similar a little cheaper but it was down a side street and slightly less hectic, which helped with overcoming the culture shock.

Only a few minutes from the railway station, bus station and Vaparetto stops, but tucked down a quiet alleyway.
The price is good (85 Euros for a single ensuite, 110 for a double) and the rooms, though small, are comfortable and spotless. Recommended for those on a budget who want a no-frills but pleasant place to stay in Venice.
I booked through www.venere.com but other agencies list the hotel as well.
Cannaregio 219 - Calle Gioacchina, Lista di Spagna, Venezia, Italia 30121. Turn left out of the train station down Lista di Spagna. The hotel is down a small alleyway about 3/4 of the way down.
A four star hotel at a lake with unpretentious, yet perfect service and wonderful food (on par with better London restaurants), surrounded with tale-like scenery of Austrian Alps. Full of activities for kids and adults alike: great and constant child care, lots of sports lessons (tennis, sailing, surfing, horse-riding). Lots of pampering - massage, sauna, etc. All of this for a three-star price. Hard to believe there is actually still a place where you pay a bill and feel you should be paying more. Home from home...
Easily accessible from Klagenfurt or Ljubljana airport (people from the hotel will pick you up at the Klagenfurt airport and transfer you in 45 minutes for £20).
Just one of the best restaurants in Birmingham. Upmarket and quite pricey but a millions miles away from most of the rubbish served up elsewhere in Brum. Well worth splashing out on. Four lovely rooms upstairs as well for any one staying over.

A lovely place. We had a fabulous vacation. There are three independent apartments which share a swimming pool and the garden. The location is perfect for daytrips. And there is a good restaurant nearby. A dream place.
Lovely, lovely people. Clean, comfortable rooms. Great food. Great hospitality and very moderately priced ($20).

Italian hospitality, beautiful surroundings, glorious Roman patio and a very pretty apartment are why I recommend this B&B choice.
In San Giovanni near shops and 10 minutes' walk from the colosseum. Very good value at 150 euro per night for the apartment. They also rent the separate rooms at 50 euro per night. I'll be back there. Bravo.
It is quite simply the best British B&B we have stayed in. Everything is thought of and catered for. How ace to have a full breakfast menu with such great choices with proper sauces, jams etc - none of these rubbishy catering pack plastic sachets. Perfectly situated for the excellent Monkey World, too!

The hostels get very, very busy during the summer months and it is certainly advisable to book as early as possible in order to get a cheap bed.
Also, be aware that if you have not warned the hostel that you will be making a late check-in (and by late check-in, they mean any time after 6pm) your reservation may be cancelled and given to another person. So if there's any chance of delay, send an email or call in advance of your arrival.
(The alternative is, if you missed out on point one, to hang around hostel receptions at about 6pm to see if they are yet ready to make some cancellations).
