A lovely small hotel in Durness run by a great young couple. Absolutely beautiful rooms with attention to every detail. Reasonable prices for this level of comfort. The breakfast was especially superb. Durness is as far north as you can go on the mainland. The beaches are gorgeous and scenery on the way is spectacular.

The Isle of Kerrera is a very accessible 5 minute ferry ride from Oban. It's car free and for a small island provides wonderful walking and exploring opportunities, especially for families. The tea garden at Lower Gylen with views out over Gylen castle and the Sound of Kerrera is a special spot. It's an easy day trip from Oban or if you have longer it's worth a night or 2 in the bunkhouse at Lower Gylen.

Spring House Bequia

Posted by travelgirl99 11 May 2007

We went to the wonderful island of Bequia for Easter this year with three other couples and my mother. Stayed at a large villa called Spring House. It turned out to be the best choice that we could have made. Great place. Great service. Great staff. Everybody had a good time and we were so well taken care of. It was really nice that the place was so big that we could all be together especially in the evenings and on days that we didn't feel like taking trips.

Lime Tree Farm

Posted by Parper 11 May 2007

Lime Tree Farm, in the Blue Mountains and overlooking Lime Tree village, is a working coffee farm with 3 simple but luxurious cottages (huge bed, coffee machine, bathroom, view to die for). You eat (delicious and generous home-cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner) on the veranda (view to die for) with the farm's husband and wife team, Charlie and Suzie, whose relaxed, friendly and interesting stories will keep you entertained and ensure you'll feel right at home.

We saw birdlife galore (most often right outside our room), went for invigorating walks in the surrounding hills that were lush and in flower (and where the friendly residents of the village will point and often accompany you back on the right path should you get a tad disorientated).

Honestly, it was my third time to Jamaica and this was the best place i've been yet (including the beautiful beaches). Charlie or Leroy will take you on walks in the surrounding hills and mountains, or leave you to it, sort out day trips to the beach or to the botanic gardens and the whole family will just make you feel so relaxed you'll be sure to love it. And even the profits from the bar go to 2 local schools!

If you are looking for more from Jamaica than the usual all-inclusive, beach stuff and fancy relaxing among the hummingbirds with an occasional visit from Zulu (their huge but very friendly black dog) then make sure a stay at Lime Tree is included in your trip. Did I mention the view is to die for??? Oh, and the coffee, obviously!

The Ceilidh Place

Fantastic, upmarket, comfy B&B style accommodation with a great restaurant, cosy bar and well-stocked book shop. Ullapool is a lovely town on a breath-taking loch and this is the pick of the places to stay.

Eagle View guesthouse

Posted by jude72 11 May 2007

This is a great place to stay - small and very friendly, but with lovely rooms (stay in the luxury one with the Victorian bath) and great breakfast. Good base for walking in the Cairngorm area and makes a change from Aviemore.

Newtonmore has a station or just off the A9.

We arrived late, wind blowing and rain pouring and the cottage was so welcoming and cosy. Absolutely amazing scenery and walks. Devil's Bridge was amazing even though it was a bit of a cardiac hill! Weather was appalling which made the cottage even more cosy and welcoming. They say there is no place like home - we could quite easily make this ours.

Umaid mahal

Posted by travelhero 11 May 2007

This hotel has lovely rooms that include antique furniture and balconies, as well a huge bathroom that was completely black marble. We actually originally booked into the Umaid Bhawan, run by the same family but due to a problem with our room, we were relocated to the Umaid Mahal. However, we were allowed to use the pool at the Umaid Bhawan which was one of our main requirements as we knew the weather would be warm.

The staff were a bit indifferent (apart from the very friendly room cleaning man) but if asked, would organise what you wanted. Being left alone by the staff in some ways was a welcome break from constantly being asked where you were going and whether you wanted a lift (at a price of course !).

The location was in a quiet residential part of town which was about a 15 min drive into Jaipur but there were always autorickshaw drivers outside to take you where you wanted.

North Stack

Posted by SusanneH 10 May 2007

A B&B in a redundant Fog Signal Station and a place of splendid isolation on Holyhead Mountain. You are picked up at the base of the mounatin by Land Rover and taken on a hair raising ride until you reach the accommodation. Watch the sunset and the many seabirds and enjoy delicious home cooked food.

It's an amazing weekend getaway, the location is stunning with views over rolling fields and the sea, the local farm shops are amazing, on site there are showers bbqs, hammocks all for the amazing price of £15pp. I'd advise this place for families, couples and groups for parties etc.

The website is www.tipiwest.co.uk/index_uk.htm
and its location is situated on Hendre Farm, off the A487 down Llwyncoed Road between the villages of Blaenannerch and Blaenporth. From Cardiff follow M4 to Carmarthen. From there follow signs to Cardigan.

Furzehill Farm B&B

Posted by spaghettipony 10 May 2007

Part of a working (busy) stables with a lovely gingerbread looking house to stay in. Friendly (and eccentric) couple who run it with great breakfasts and it's only a short walk from the fantastic pub on Cresswell Quay. After that, head to Carew Castle (even more great views).

Antique Apartments

Posted by skier7 9 May 2007

This is a company just a few steps away from Szczpenski square, which rents apartments like hotel rooms. We stayed in one of their four- bedroom apartments for ten people.

Great location, friendly staff and the apartment was very cool. I know they have a few more at that location and in other locations in the centre.

The apartment was very nice, nicely furnished with everything you might need for few days (including a hot tub). Check them out if you are looking for a place to stay in Krakow and don't want to spend a tonne on a hotel room.

CASTELINHO38, Santa Teresa

Posted by skapunky 9 May 2007

Castelinho38 is a marvelous guesthouse in Santa Teresa neighbourhood, one of the oldest in Rio.

This guesthouse has a peaceful and unique vibe, I felt at peace as soon as I arrived there! The owner and all the staff were super friendly and helpful. While I was there I also attended yoga and pilates classes.

The best thing though was the view, that was just incredible!

This is a really amazing guest house, it's a real castle on top of a hill and the atmosphere for me is just magical! It’s in the centre of Rio but at the same time you feel like you could be in the middle of nowhere!

There is a big terrace where they serve breakfast and you have a double view: the city of Rio in its splendour and then a green, peaceful hill.

I had a very good time there, the service is great, everyone that worked there was really nice and helpful! The bedrooms are huge and airy, you couldn't ask for anything better!

I stayed over a week with this wonderful family in the Umaid Bhawan in Jaipur, India. I absolutely fell in love with it, as well as its sibling, the Umaid Mahal. The family is extraordinarily kind and giving, the facilities are wonderful, and do I even need to start on the food?

When you are in this hotel, you feel as if you are royalty. Everyone seems to know and be close with everyone, and servants are willing to wait on your every need.

I plan on coming back to India simply to visit this wonderful family and their luxurious hotel once again. Ranvijay, the hotel manager, will go to any length to see that you are satisfied with your stay in his hotel.

Visit the hotel, or at the very least, stop by simply to eat a meal on the rooftop of this castle.

Friendly hotel, with great prices, helpful staff and perfect location.
It's three-star accommodation, but the service is way better: it offers studios instead of rooms (with fully equipped kitchen and bathroom) and a buffet breakfast that easily competes with anything offered by higher category hotels. Plus, it is located only two bus-stops from the heart of the city, with a bus that drops you off basically in front of the entrance (arrives every 5 minutes or so). Don't be fooled by the cheap prices either - they have discounts for all seasons, but the quality is really amazing.
I booked it through a webpage (www.budapesthotelstart.com) that also offers other hotels, all for special rates as far as I could tell.

Venturska Residence

Posted by tjohn 9 May 2007

Me and my girlfriend spent a wonderfull weekend in the Venturska Residence. It is a really nice apartment house located literally in the heart of the Old Town with major city attractions. The apartment was newly refurbished and clean and had everything from a dishwasher to free internet access. Also the hosts were nice and helpful. I definitely recommend this property to all kinds of travellers. And the price there was half the rate for the hotel room in downtown Bratislava.
