Bed and Breakfast Piazza Erbe

Posted by barcelonaowl 29 September 2006

Good B&B in centre of Verona, although it's 5 floors up with no lift! Worth it though.

As the name suggests it's located in Piazza Erbe, the central piazza in Verona. All the info is available at www.bbpiazzaerbe.it

Hotel Nicolaas Witsen

Posted by Lexy78 27 September 2006

This hotel is wonderful. The rooms are nice and renovated, beds are very good, breakfast is huge and good and the staff is very friendly. When there were no taxi's available on the day of departure, the manager brought us to the airport with his own car. We really can recommend this hotel.

Not staying on West Street

Posted by Lokes 27 September 2006

I stayed in a small place (the minority cafe with a great cook but it may have changed hands by now) on Guihua road opposite a traditional medicine shop. It's cheaper and quieter than West Street (only minutes away) with a really great cake shop on the corner.

If walking up West Street towards the river turn left, over a bridge and it should be somewhere around there.

African Breeze Guesthouse

Posted by elgoober 25 September 2006

Just returned from a South African mini tour - of which African Breeze was a big highlight.

Was a bit apprehensive, as UK guesthouses can be quite foreboding, but the African guesthouse experience was an absolute pleasure.

Simon, Cathy, Brooke and Daniel were all superstars, with nothing too much trouble, from airport transfers, through getting us in and around Knysna at night, to providing a comprehensive tour service - and that's before we mention the warm hospitality, stunning breakfasts and the little extra's that you would never get at a "chain" or bigger hotel.

Here it's all about the personal touch - even getting this poor husband out of trouble when he "accidently" led his wife into quicksand (an honest mistake) and her lovely shoes consigned to the bin.

Go for it and give yourself 3-4 days for the entire Knysna experience to settle you in.

Relaxation guaranteed.

(Try Rhino Base camp for a small safari, and the elephant park just out of Knysna is a delight too- oh and don't miss Natures Reserve)

Browns Beach Hotel

Posted by Maxus 23 September 2006

Browns Beach Hotel is a large sprawling place in Negombo, which I occasionally use as a base (it’s just 20 minutes from the airport). A package deal to Sri Lanka often costs about the same as a flight so you can leave your heavy gear here while you pop off on your travels.

Popular with British package tourists and more well-to-do Sri Lankans at the weekend (when the nightclub opens), Browns Beach is a friendly enough place with a large pool and several bars. In the season, the place gets full, in June I was one of around 20 guests, out-numbered 10 to 1 by staff.

Try to get one of the ground-floor chalet type rooms (practically on the beach) rather than the older upstairs rooms in the main building. All have AC and a fridge.

The Minara Hotel, Kurawita

Posted by Maxus 23 September 2006

The Minara Hotel is a well-managed and reasonably priced modern boutique hotel adjacent to the magnificent Bopath Ella Waterfall. No doubt it gets busy in the season but when we stayed in June 06 we had the place to ourselves.

I would recommend this place to any traveller (particularly those looking for a break from the grubby bed sheet circuit).

A small modern, professionally run place with air conditioned rooms, a good restaurant and unrivalled views of the falls.

Near Ratnapura, a few kilometres off the A4 at Kurawita. Ask for Bopath Ella.

Rajiv and Indira Chowk

Posted by Pawan 19 September 2006

Originally called Connaught Place, this is the centre of New Delhi. You find everything here - big shops, restaurants, art galleries, hotels and craft emporiums. More importantly, if you go to the lanes behind the main circle, you will find very good eating places. Now, with the Metro Station in the centre, you can go to the far flung parts of Delhi as well.

Hotel security

Posted by Isabel1812 17 September 2006

Take care with your property in hotel breakfast rooms and restaurants. The hotel we stayed in had a card entry system but it didn't operate during the day, you could 'buzz in' or the door was open. Nobody looked up from Reception and there were no room number checks in the breakfast rooms. While we were there two ladies had their bags stolen while they were at the buffet. The breakfast rooms were in the basement and had a secure feel but anybody could wander around and the thieves did!

I've stayed at the Sunny Bonaire bungalows. Very nice bungalows!
Bonaire is a beautiful island in the Dutch Caribbean. It is a sleepy island, with a mellow atmosphere. A great place to learn scuba diving or windsurfing. And now I've my Padi!

Haus Baumann

Posted by adamedwardsteather 9 September 2006

Immaculate set of three rented flats in quiet town centre, 20 mins walk from the lake (setting for the Elinor M Brent-Dyer Chalet School stories) and just off both the Munich - Innsbruck cycle path and a steam track railway. A week in August was £290 which was a bargin for what we had.

Surrounding area is good for hikers, mountaineers and cyclists or simply those who like mountains and fresh air.

Local buses are free to you as part of the holiday and there is an excellent weekly season on the steam trains, lake steamers and cable cars for about the same costs as a round trip on three of them.

Bays around Hvar town

Posted by hvaranin 8 September 2006

For peace and nature lovers it would be wise to find accommodation somewhere around city of Hvar: www.hvarinfo.com might be a site to look. I found my accommodation in Basina bay there. Otherwise, you might find your self sleepless if you try to find accommodation somewhere in city centre.

Panerai & Panerai

Great little B&B. Great location, between Duomo and Piazza Della SS Annunziata, one block from Museo dell Academia. Feels like you are stepping back in time to the renaissance, all heavy dark wood furniture, white walls and lots of art. The staff are also great and bend over backwards to help.

Hotel Ferretti

Posted by buba 31 August 2006

We stayed for 3 days in August. This is a great place just off Piazza Santa Maria Novella - close to the main station and has restaurants and cafes very close - in fact one right next door. The room we had was on the 2nd floor - the hotel reception is on level 1 and there are no lifts. The managers are extremely helpful and made our stay really enjoyable. Free internet facilities and self service breakfast. The room was basic but larger than others we stayed at in Italy. Overall a great place to stay.
