Clean, welcoming, comfortable and excellent value, close to The Malting.
Breakfast is huge with so many choices you could have a different breakfast every day of a week-long stay or be spoilt for choice if popping overnight on the way up to Scotland or on the way down south.
There are also plenty of places to eat in the evenings and the pub at the end of the road has real ale and music.
Art gallery is about a 15 minute walk.

Could anyone recommend a better B&B in Snowdonia than this one? I doubt it! Emma and Menno are warm and welcoming hosts, the rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable and the breakfast is totally delicious - a great choice of local fare ranging from the 'full Welsh', to the healthy options. The Dutch Pancake is a particular treat - Menno having brought all sorts of interesting recipes from his homeland.There isn't a lounge, but you will be welcome to sit in the cosy Tea Room in the evening, reading or playing a board game (if you don't want to watch TV in your room) - or just relaxing. Out of season they can provide you with an evening meal or you can walk a few steps to the local pub. No need to use the car once you have arrived, as Ty Mawr is ideally situated for walks, and of course, there is the Welsh Highland Railway station across the road. Perfect!

Very close to Hix Oyster House and Jurassic Seafood (latter excellent if you don't mind the scruffy decor)

I had gone through almost the full list of B&Bs on the Brecon Beacons National Park website and none of them had a room for two nights. Finally I decided to call the Ty Shon Jacob farm.
I called them last because their website looked a bit rough and ready, the pictures on it were fuzzy and I was convinced the horses in the picture were taken from a children's story book. When Agneta Harris the owner said on the phone that it would cost us just £25 a night, I was convinced it was only a matter of time before we discovered what the catch was.
As we went higher and higher up a hill after turning off the highway in the town of Pontypool, I almost began to wonder if it existed at all. But finally we saw a cheerful sign on the top of the hill to the Ty Shon Jacob farm and Agneta's horses munching in her fields. Energetic Agneta showed us to our wonderful room with a large luxurious bathroom. In the morning we got an excellent breakfast and Ty Shon Jacob farm turned out to be a superb find. Highly recommend it for a weekend of writing, reading or rambling through the Brecon Beacons. Its a short drive away.
There are only three rooms so you're not likely to ever find it too crowded. Ample car parking space available.

The Bothy, situated in the grounds of the White Cottage is simply the best romantic yet stylish hideaway ever.

The owners of this incredible B&B, Deb and Ian, should offer courses to other B&B owners on how to run a successful business. Their attention to detail is second to none - carefully sourced organic products (everything from the soap to the ingredients for our delicious breakfast). We were made to feel extremely welcome with a wonderful roaring fire on our arrival. Our room was really stylish and comfortable. The location is stunning and an ideal stop off for trips to the West Highlands if you are coming from Edinburgh or Glasgow. We have stayed in many B&Bs and hotels and this is certainly one of the very best. They even have llamas! All this for £35pppn - superb value.

It’s tricky to find the lovely C19th lodge of Gwern Borter, but well worth it. Three miles from Conwy, Gwern Borta is near enough to some very fine tourist attractions in and around Snowdonia, yet secret and secluded enough to really feel away from the rat race. A highlight after breakfast is to feed the farm animals. Gary also has horses and ponies if you feel energetic. But after a busy week in the Steel City, I find it is just enough for me to unwind on a lovely woodland walk ending up at The Groes Inn, in time for lunch and local ale.

The five rooms in "The Place To Stay" are imaginatively converted outbuildings clustered around a pretty courtyard garden with views towards the Longleat Estate. West Country breakfasts - using fresh local produce - are served in the main farmhouse, along with bowls brimming with fresh fruit salad. The owner is a qualified massage therapist, so you can have a treatment in the luxury of your room. They will also sprinkle rose petals in the bath; coupled with the deep fluffy bathrobes, tasteful decor and four poster beds, this is the closest to five-star hotel service you'll ever find in a humble B&B.

Simply the most magical place I've ever stayed. We came off two longish flights from a cold UK to take a life-affirming short boat trip down the river that couldn't have been further from December London, and ended up in the suite with the terrace that faces directly onto Wat Arun.
The view, the sounds, the smells all what you go on holiday for. The small things (shower, bed, ipod music thing - I am 40:-)) all present. About seven rooms and a simple breakfast to the sound of the lapping of the river.
Not cheap, but this is what you save money for ...

The White Cottage, and more particularly their stone barn "The Bothy", is the perfect romantic hideaway for two in the south Shropshire Hills.
Perched on a hillside overlooking unspoiled, rolling countryside, The Bothy is small but perfectly formed. Decorated and run by Mary and Tim, it's an unrivaled exhibition of good taste. Every detail is taken care of: from under floor heating and enormous, firm bed to sculptures and original artwork by Tim and his family.
There's plenty to see and do nearby, with Offa's Dyke, Clun and Bishops Castle all a few miles away. That's not the point though. From the moment you arrive you'll sink into the place, drink in the details with a glass of red wine, shut the curtains and curl up together in a unique, moorishly loved space just for two.

We’ve never received a warmer B&B welcome than at the Pigeon House in Southam in the heart of the Cotswolds (perfect for the Cotswolds Way). Set in a lovely garden (in full bloom when we were there in Spring), this beautifully restored stone cottage sits in the centre of a tiny cluster of medieval and Norman buildings, including an adjoining tithe barn. Staying here you could be an extra in Midsomer Murders, though we were certainly charmed rather than terrified by the cosy rooms (roaring fire in the sitting room), comfy bed (duvet - not sheets and blankets!) and delicious organic breakfast. Our genial host went way beyond the call of duty, ferrying us to and from the local, award-winning pub. In the morning we found that our muddy walking boots had been discreetly scraped clean, ready for the day ahead! The Pigeon House is everything you want from an English B&B – we left happy and well rested.

These days Morecambe is a bit run down though with the renovation of the art deco Midland Hotel it may be on the up. But what will never change is the Bay and the wonderful views across to the Lake District. And that's where the Yacht Bay View Hotel scores. A traditional B&B in a four-storey stone built house right on the sea front. Good rooms with big bay windows have uninterrupted views right across the Bay. All the rooms have been renovated. Good comfortable beds, easy chairs to sit, have a cup of tea, borrow the binoculars and watch the view. Even towel dressing gowns to relax in. All for £66 per night per room with a great a la carte, cooked to order breakfast included.

Shieldhall, Capability Brown's family home (he is buried in the nearby pretty church) is Celia and Stephen Robinson-Gay's blisful B&B in the green rolling Northumberland countryside. Very comfortable bedrooms named after the wood used in them (we usually stay in the Oak Room) have ample bathrooms with soft towels. Celia's excellent breakfasts and (optional) dinners, incorporating local and often organic ingredients, are eaten at antique tables or one made by Stephen (an outstanding furniture maker/restorer) among elegant glass and silver antiques. With a sitting room/well stocked library and local walks, Shieldall is within easy reach of Alnwick and Bamburgh castles, Lindisfarne, Cragside, hadriaan's Wall and the Cheviots.

Nestled in the heart of Dartmoor in perfect walking countryside, this converted barn is an idyllic place to stay. From the decorative bantam hens scratching outside to Jenny's delicious breakfasts, the whole place is charming. The two-storey guest sitting room with wood stove in a monolithic chimney breast is particularly lovely. We had a wonderful time at Casa Conde! Jacobo and Jorge did an amazing job welcoming us to their city. We loved the fresh juice and traditional breakfast and they were excellent in suggesting interesting places to visit. The house was clean, funky, affordable and made us feel very at home. The seaside is the only proper place for a stay in a B&B. The excellent Redcliffe Hotel on Scarborough's South Cliff has it all. Set back from the Esplanade, on leafy Prince of Wales Terrace, it's a short walk to the beach and the town centre. The rooms (some with sea view) are spotless and stylish, with all the extras - such as hairdryer, iron, tea, coffee and Kit Kats. There is a cosy bar and a fabulous first floor lounge with big comfy sofas, books and games.
Ann, the wonderful owner, was born to run a hotel. All her guests return over and over again, and she has entertaining stories to tell that are worth the room rate alone!
Her husband, Brian, makes the best breakfast bar none. The full English is on offer in every combination you could wish for, served with a mountain of toast. Or there's smoked haddock, eggs done every which way and a table groaning with fresh fruit, cereals and yoghurt. All served rather elegantly on thick white linen tablecloths in the charming dining room.
