Hotel CasaCinco

Posted by irvinga 26 April 2010

This is a really beautiful little boutique hotel in Vejer de la Frontera. Its in a converted historic house with interior patio courtyard and there's a roof terrace with breathtaking views over to the coast of Africa. The atmosphere of the place is supremely chilled and the rooms, with their mix of Spanish, Moroccan and 50s chic, are stylish and romantic - apparently one of the rooms is renowned for the number of marriage proposals it seems to incite.

Flights are cheap to nearby Jerez and Gibraltar, so you can consider going for a weekend getaway.

Riad Lorsya

Posted by nadinadi 23 April 2010

We stayed here for three nights. Riad Lorsya is beautifully renovated and very well located, just a few minutes walk from the main square.
There are two suites and two rooms, well-decorated. The dinner offered on the first evening was the best one we had in Marrakech.

Como House B&B

Posted by spiral 22 April 2010

Lovely unpretentious B&B in an old school building. The cooked breakfast was great.
In the town centre and very near the hills - you can just walk onto them.
So nice to go somewhere that is neither trying to be flash or twee, just comfortable and interesting.
Also very reasonable price.

Hotel Babel

Posted by Clareman 21 April 2010

This lovely boutique hotel situated in the heart of San Telmo is something special. My wife and I spent the first three days of a marvellous four-week holiday in Argentina in this hotel and it certainly set the standard for the rest of the holiday.

I cannot overstate how helpful all of the staff were. The rooms, located around a central courtyard, are spacious, clean and comfortable. The breakfasts are simple but healthy and tasty.

The location may at first seem a little off-putting, but don't be. It's a great area and, as far as we are concerned, very safe. Lots of very good restaurants nearby - let the hotel staff advise you. And if you're lucky, when you are leaving they may even give you a copy of their CD featuring a mix of jazz and tango style music.

The Jabberwock Inn

Posted by hearttravelling 19 April 2010

A B&B close to old Monterey. The owners are amazingly welcoming, every room is decorated differently (many with double bath jacuzzis)and you sit down to a fantastic, home-cooked breakfast each morning around the table with other guests. They have loads of games, an area to play French boules and loads of secluded places to sit and chill.

The owners also have a wine and canape night every night from 7pm where you can meet other guests, have a drink together and plan what to do that evening with the help of recommendations from other guests and the owners.

Chez les Roset is a beautiful self catering house (sleeps 4) in the stunning and peaceful valley, Valgrisanche. The house is full of charm and character and from the balcony you have a view of mountains and a glacier, as well as Planaval, a picturesque village. Excellent walking in the area and a highlight at the end of the valley is hearing the marmots whistle and spotting the bundles of fur among the rocks on the hillside.

Apartment

We really enjoyed Istanbul and had a beautiful time. This apartment in Cukurcuma is cozy and comfortable and the location fantastic. The area is an exciting mix of the old Ottoman tradition and new artistic trends and the Galata tower and bridge are within walking distance. We met Tarkan's family: lovely people!

Podere Costantino

Posted by AndrewGronnow 19 April 2010

A friend and I stayed with Mara and Franco for a week at their farmhouse accommodation - I wish it had been longer! The apartment was clean, typically Tuscan in style, and had all we required for a self-catering holiday. The location was beautiful and perfectly placed for visiting the surrounding area. Mara and Franco were perfect hosts, supplying us with their home grown produce and cooking us a Tuscan delight upon our arrival. The pool was fantastic especially as we had glorious weather. Volterra is a must as is Sienna.

Barcelona Urbany

Posted by Hotstix 14 April 2010

This is simply the coolest hostel in Spain, with edgy urban design incorporating graffiti and comic-book prints, paintbox colours and minimalist chic. It's within easy reach of the beach, but if the weather's less than great it's got free WiFi, CDs, DVDs and even Wii consoles you can use, a huge terrace where you can eat or just drink in the view and, best of all, free use of a nearby swimming pool and fitness centre. All yours for as little as €12 a night – and incredibly that includes a decent breakfast. Oh, and they'll charge your mobile or iPod for you. That's service.

Patio de la Cartuja, Seville

Posted by gloskeith 13 April 2010

Patio de la Cartuja is an ideal base for exploring the magical city of Seville. It is an apart-hotel, which gives you more independence than a standard hotel room, and has a small kitchen. The apartment I stayed in had a huge sitting/dining room, and I particularly loved the comfortable bedroom, which was as big as mine at home. A beautiful inner courtyard has salmon pink walls contrasting with the rich greenery of plants hanging from balconies. The hotel is a 20-minute walk from the centre of Seville, in a slightly downmarket area, but with great bars and the sound of guitars and the foot-stamping of flamenco emanating from open windows.
High-season price is €112 for a double apartment. I highly recommend both the hotel and the city.

Nisia Bed and Breakfast

This is one of the best bed and breakfast places we have stayed at. The people managing it are lovely, and it is a very clean place, close to all major attractions and right opposite two supermarkets and metro stations. The prices are very very good for a city like Barcleona.

This great hotel nestles in the foothills of the Pyrenees, in a tiny medieval Catalan village. With just six rooms, the place is totally rustic, well put together and quiet, with a fantastic restaurant - perfect for a bit of escapism. But you are 20 minutes from Figueres and Dali's museum, and 40 minutes from the old town of Girona and the Costa Brava.

Domaine de la Brillane

Posted by lolanne 13 April 2010

On arrival at Domaine de la Brillane you are met with breathtaking views of Mont Sainte-Victoire - painted by Paul Cezanne – bursting yellow sunflower fields and the evocative scent of lavender, cementing the fact that you have arrived in Provence. Now in its eighth year, this family-run organic vineyard and b&b encourages guests to get involved with the vendange (grape harvest) and offers an introduction to the art and science of wine tasting. Bicycles are available to hire for exploring the surrounding villages, or you can just unwind in the Provençale countryside. Just 7km north of Aix-en-Provence, La Brillane epitomises rural France and boasts a wine cellar stocked for eternity. C'est magnifique!

Itaca Hostel

Between the friendly, genuinely helpful and multilingual staff, and the great selection of accommodation (cheap but comfortable hostel / private rooms/private and fully furnished apartments), there really isn't anywhere else I would stay in Barcelona - on a budget of course. From my first stay as a solo traveller, to my last with a group of friends, they made my holidays stress-free and incredibly enjoyable!

Dyfiview B&B

Posted by CLK1 13 April 2010

We stayed at Dyfiview in early February, as friends of the owners, as they prepared to launch their B&B business.
We were very impressed. Dyfiview B&B has a superb location overlooking Machynlleth and a short walk takes you into the centre where there is a good choice of places to eat and drink.

Our room (Room 1) was very spacious, newly and tastefully decorated and well appointed with a large en-suite bathroom, a very comfortable bed, roomy wardrobes, a flat screen TV, together with tea/coffee making facilities, toiletries etc.

There are fantastic views over the Dovey Valley from the bedroom and from the large dining room and terrace where we also enjoyed watching a wide variety of birds, which were attracted by the bird table and feeders.

Gill and Mike are most welcoming and helpful to visitors: while relatively new to the area they are very enthusiastic about the many opportunities this part of Wales offers. While we were there we enjoyed some local walks and a visit to the nearby Centre for Alternative Technology.
