Just returned from a fantastic family friendly holiday at this luxury hotel on the coast. Superb service and facilities, very friendly and welcoming and sunshine every day!
In my experience its really hard to find good information about Mallorca which isn't aimed at the bottom of the market. But this site has a real magazine feel to it and has got some fantastic boutique hotels and hideaways listed. Plus there are loads of descriptions of where to go and what to see.
Cornwall is arguably best off-season, and self-catering accommodation is nicer during the odd rainy day. My top tip is to stay slightly out of the town centre (it’s quieter), and the best I’ve found is Four Shores, a Victorian terraced town house, five minutes' walk from the beach. Or ten minutes if you’ve just eaten your second cream tea of the day. Four Shores is one of the most comfortable and best equipped houses I’ve stayed at. There are two double and three single bedrooms, with more showers and WC’s than you can flap a wet towel at. There are quirky details I love: stained glass doors, window seats for people watching, a store room for surf boards and a cute patio. It’s perfect for families and friends, but there is also the chance off-season for couples to enjoy the property at special rates.

This is a family-run hotel and restaurant serving simple but really tasty food (they have their own butcher's shop so the meat is especially good) and great breakfasts. There are family rooms with bunk beds and we have found it ideally located to break the long journey from England to Italy. It's also handily situated for the brilliant Europa Park theme park.

This is a beautiful agriturismo serving what locals consider to be some of the best and most authentic Marche cuisine. The setting is stunning, with views of mountains, hills and valleys. You can sit outside under a shady pergola or in the vaulted brick interior. There are often exhibitions of modern art on the walls and patrone Silvio is a perfect host. We have eaten but not stayed there but all indications are that it would be a great place for a few nights and a fine basis for walking in the Sibillini.

Casa de las Tías is a small B&B (six rooms) near San José airport and close to town. With very friendly and helpful owners it is a relaxing beauiful place to stay.

I have been staying at this hotel since early 1998 and have returned in every year except one, since. The building has changed a great deal since those early days and is now modern and has every facility.
I am now 69 and would be perfectly happy to stay here alone. The staff are fantastically helpful and have a vast knowledge of their city. Louise (New zealander/Italian), and Laura (Italian) are exceptionally helpful and will book museums, restaurants etc willingly. They will tell you the italian for something you might want to buy in case the shop does not speak other languages. Wonderful!!
The rooms are comfortable, very clean and bright, with ensuites and TV. Some have outstanding views over the city. Breakfast is a good, varied buffet with loads of tea, coffee, juice etc.
It takes less than two minutes to walk to the duomo and five to Mercato Centrale (a must for food lovers). All major places of interest are within easy walking distance.
I have stayed in hotels of all star ratings from no star to five-star, huts in the african bush, YHA's etc but this is one place I return to again and again where the staff feel like old friends and the welcome is superb. GO THERE!!
The value for money is unquestionable.

Just spent a week in this wonderful five-star thatched cottage. Booked it thinking the website probably wouldn't live up to the pictures, but it was way above what we expected. It is newly built but in traditional stone, so it looked really old. When we got inside it had a real "wow factor", pure luxury. The views were to die for and we spent most evenings outside watching the sunset. It also had a webcam trained on the croft hill, and we saw buzzards and eagles from the comfort of our chair, amazing stuff!
Did lots of walking and looked forward to returning to the luxurious bathroom in the cottage. The water came from a private underground spring and my skin felt amazing after a week, due to no chemicals in the water. Ate out at the Three Chimneys and Old School House Restaurant, both fantastic and nearby. Talisker Distillery was also a must-visit, especially the tasting sessions!
I hate to tell anyone of the cottage in case we don't get in next year but thank you to the owners for an amazing week. And thanks, Ally, the owner for getting us a fresh lobster, straight from the sea!
Can't wait to go back!

Apartment accommodation can actually be a good way to save money and get better value accommodation in Edinburgh.
Most hotels cost around £100 per night but you can book three-four star apartments for around £90 per night and some of these can sleep up to four people.
This means it works out around £23pppn compared to the £50pppn at a hotel! Add to that the fact you get your own kitchen and lounge area and it can actually be quite a bargain!
Worth thinking about if you are going to be staying in Edinburgh.

Lovely campsite on the shores of beautiful Lake Como. It is very reasonably priced, and the staff are extremely friendly. The campsite has excellent facilities and a swimming pool - a perfect place for couples or families.

A small but enchanting great B&B right in the heart of the Barolo vineyards so ideal for lovers of wine - and food. Reasonable €55-75 with breakfast. And what a great breakfast with home-made bread and cakes - Daniella is a superb cook. The B&B is housed in a 19th-century buidling, about 13 kilometres from the city of Alba. If you take a room you have access to a sitting room with a library of books. Daniella and her husband are passionate about their region and will advise on walks etc.

Its a stunning little place, really quaint renovated barn with beams and and antique bed. It is set on the edge of a fragrant eucalyptus forest, overlooking a lush valley, completely peaceful and tranquil. There's a pool and all you'd expect for a holiday – but its only €30 a night. The owners are live off the land and grow all their veg so the food is divine. Central Portugal is the real Portugal – green and lush, not what you'd expect at all. It has lakes, rivers, fluvial beaches, castles, roman ruin, yet the big cities are only a short drive away.
This is a really beautiful little boutique hotel in Vejer de la Frontera. Its in a converted historic house with interior patio courtyard and there's a roof terrace with breathtaking views over to the coast of Africa. The atmosphere of the place is supremely chilled and the rooms, with their mix of Spanish, Moroccan and 50s chic, are stylish and romantic - apparently one of the rooms is renowned for the number of marriage proposals it seems to incite.
Flights are cheap to nearby Jerez and Gibraltar, so you can consider going for a weekend getaway.

We stayed here for three nights. Riad Lorsya is beautifully renovated and very well located, just a few minutes walk from the main square.
There are two suites and two rooms, well-decorated. The dinner offered on the first evening was the best one we had in Marrakech.
