Obama Bar

Posted by Frankfishless 27 January 2010

I recommend a quick drink and a bit to eat with the kids in the Obama Bar in Barcelona. We were walking around in the rain looking for a nice place to have a drink, and by luck we came across the Obama Bar, just days before he was elected!

Athelstane House Queenscliff

Posted by ismith 15 January 2010

One of Australia's best rural restaurants is Athelstane House in the historic maritime village of Queenscliff. The dining experience we had was superb, with amazing food backed up by a very good list of local and regional wines (as well as imports from France etc) and very very good service. Dining can be done in the restaurant or on the balcony or in front of the fire. Athelstane House also provides high class accommodation as well as a very good food store. Athelstane House is the winner of many dining and good food awards. We were impressed.

One of the best coffee shops I've ever been to! Those guys sure enough know their business. The food was delicious, the place was cozy and the coffee was amazing - definitely worth a visit.

De Ja Vu

Posted by krishym 25 December 2009

Wonderful little hidden bar, filled with expats, locals and NGO volunteers. There is a lovely little vibe here and they have live music on most nights from an endearing French singer. On Saturdays there is a $20 all you can drink and eat offer. Lots of fun and not the generic bar that you'd encounter in this bustling city.

Bridge 63 restaurant and bar

Posted by AA30 22 December 2009

I've popped into this place a couple times for a drink and a meal and have to say it's absolutely fantastic. It has brought to the area something my wife and I have thought has been missing for years. They've taken an old pub and re-vamped it into a modern bar and restaurant. They've kept the old features though with the exterior painted classic black & white and the same theme running inside with the oak frame ceilings and open log fire. It may be a bit on the steeper side of things price wise but it's worth every penny and still cheaper than anything you'd find in Manchester or Liverpool. I had the wild boar for mains which was fantastic with the scallops for starters and all I can say is 10 out of 10. If you get a chance when in the Wigan/Manchester area it's definitely worth a little detour to visit. Next to the canal as well, this place was a really relaxing spot last summer.

Amuse Wine Bar

Posted by athawaii 19 December 2009

Amuse is an upscale wine bar located in the Honolulu Design Center. They offer a wide variety of wines from all over the world. Perhaps more interesting than what they offer is how they offer it. When you arrive at Amuse you can purchase a charge card, which you then use to sample the wines from thier high tech bottle racks. each botttle is tapped and dispense wine in 1oz increments.

Alchemia bar

Posted by NancyV 9 December 2009

Alchemia is a great bar snuggled into the Corner of Estery St. and Nowy Square. The interior is illuminated by candle light creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. They have a great selection of beers, vodkas, divine 'real' hot chocolate and great cakes (chocolate and cherry was my favourite). I can't think of anywhere nicer to install yourself on a cold evening in Krakow. Enjoy!

live music in Botanic Avenue bars

Posted by Eimer 3 December 2009

Every Thursday night in the Empire Bar see the Rab McCullough blues band from 10.30pm to 1am. It's free admission and it's a consistently good night out in this historical bar which is in an old church. Also every Sunday night in the same place you can see Glen Haddock (classic rock and pop) from 10 to 12pm, which is always good and free. Rab McCullough plays an acoustic set in Madisons bar on Fridays from 7.30 to 9.30pm.

The Sirocco restaurant is one of the highest open air restaurants in the world, on the 63rd floor, 200m high.
It's a great setting which you have to experience. If the meal is outside your budget you can have a drink in the Sky bar. We paid £120 for three courses with a glass of wine.

Dress code is smart casual. Long trousers for men with no sandals allowed.

The Union Bar

Posted by Chrissy1 24 November 2009

The Union is different to any other cocktail bar in Copenhagen. It is sophisticated and full of old school charm. Resembling a secret, dark hide- away in New York in the beginning of the last century, The Union takes it’s inspiration from bouncing prohibition days and unfolds behind a black, discreet door in St. Strandstraede, Copenhagen. The bartenders were dressed to the nines in white shirts and bowties taking a particular pride in giving us the absolute best service in town. The Union is the perfect place to meet for drinks before a dinner in the exclusive neighbourhood of Kgs. Nytorv but don’t be surprised if you yearn to come back for post dinner drinks and a night cap. Perfect for intimate rendez vous and cheerfull encounters.

St. Strandstraede. Opp. # 19 Look for the black door. Ring the golden bell. Nearest metro stop is Kgs. Nytorv.

Barcelona nightlife

Posted by Slinkmeister 20 November 2009

I've recently spent all summer updating a guidebook about the nightlife in Barcelona and loved exploring the eclectic and cramped local bars of Gothic Quarter and El Born, the trendy joints of the shabby chic district of Raval ... as well as the swanky lounge bars and clubs on the beach by the Port Olimpic.

I've distilled my research (over 70 places visited!) into one article for Barcelona Life (www.barcelona-life.com), and I hope it helps people make the most of the nightlife scene here...

Pasalo bien!

The Weinerei

Posted by csissons 19 November 2009

A no-strings attached gem, the Weinerei offers unlimited wine, juice, and a meal for a one Euro fee (plus a donation on exit) in central Berlin.

The cafe itself is small, packed with locals and the wine isn't bad either!

A must-visit for budget travellers with a penchant for good wine, conversation and value.
