This Italian cafe is owned by the Varani family and is well known by locals and people in Glasgow. Its vanilla ice cream is not too sweet and has a pale brown colour and is absolutely delicious! My late dad Sam used to make special trips and buy a large container to bring home when I was a little child and my mouth is watering at the moment of writing!

Italian Cafe. Good caff snacks of the Italian variety but truly delicious, excellent quality, homemade ice cream in a multitude of flavours (try a dollop of chocolate and a dollop of pistachio.. or hazel.. the strawberry is v. good too... oh dear. I'm getting over excited!

La Strada is many things...a coffee bar serving illy coffee, tea, hot chocolate, milkshakes, smoothies fresh croissants, filled baguettes and ciabattas, cakes and light meals; a shop which sells Italian designer kitchen ware including the Guzzini and Alessi brands, Belgian chocolates and other edible gifts; a gallery space which exhibits the work of local photographers and artists AND an artisan ice-cream shop!
All of the ice-cream is made by hand on-site using milk from a small local dairy. There are always the three basic flavours on offer, vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, but depending on the seasons, customers' suggestions and the imagination of the creators, anything is possible in terms of flavours. There are 16 flavours on offer, with a choice of non-dairy "fruit-ice" (sorbet) for those who can't have milk, and flavours range from strawberry and champagne to white chocolate with Maltesers, the famed gin and tonic (yes, made with real gin), mint choc chip, mango, lychee, blueberry, apple crumble, banana and caramel and many, many more. There is a selection of waffle cones, chocolate-dipped cones or tubs or you can have a sundae made up complete with sauces and cream and eat in the cafe. You can also have 1 or 2 litre tubs to take away and put in your freezer. It really is the best hand-made ice-cream for miles around.

Bratislava's Old Town centre is completely pedestrianised and has wall-to-wall bars, restaurants, cafes and clubs.
It has a much more relaxed, easy-going and friendly ambience than many other European capitals and, because there are no cars, you can try all the superb Slovak beers, wines and fiery spirits, tottering from one bar to another without fear of being mown down by a Skoda in a hurry.
Highly recommended for gourmets and bon-viveurs everywhere.

The best bit is the Tearoom at Ettrick Bay, a couple of miles north of Rothesay. This is a semi-derelict shed which desperately needs a lick of paint, but serves the most incredible home cooking including lemon meringue pie with the top four inches high and soup to keep you going for a week.
A small island in the far north west of Scotland owned by the Scottish Wildlife Trust reached by boat from the tiny harbour of Tarbet near Scourie in Sutherland. In spring/summer see thousands of nesting seabirds including puffins, great skuas and razorbills whilst enjoying a walk through the island with magnificent views all round.
When you return back to Tarbet, enjoy the most fresh and delicious seafood at the tiny Seafood Cafe. A gem of a place.
This is a really stylish and comfortable cafe/bar in the middle of the town. It is a great place to drink a (good) coffee and read the papers while you wait for your wife to look at the shops and then buy her a simple lunch and decent glass of wine! I have never been there in the evening but I believe they sometimes have (gentle) live music.

I've lived in Valencia for six months now and this is one of my favourite places to go for a coffee.
Choose a table outside in the sun and you can look at the view of the Neptuno fountain and the cathedral, it's lovely.
The cafes around the square can charge a higher than average price for a coffee but this one doesn't and you also get the best view of the square.

Unfortunately owners have a very poor approach to customer service and food hygiene is poor. They are extremely surly and any complaint about the quality of the food is met with comments such as '..go and eat elsewhere then'. On complaining that my childrens' sausages were not cooked properly they refused to replace them and gave no refund (having thrown the items away).
It's a tiny, but very sweet cafe!

This legendary hangout frequented by expats, students, and local residents since 1996 recently moved to a new location (now right across from the US consulate).
The casual cellar atmosphere is cosy and welcoming. The staff pretty much all speak English. The moderately-priced menu (in English and Russian) features tasty American-style food including nachos with homemade chili, and monster burgers like nowhere else in the city.
Free WiFi and internet phone are really conveninent and helpful, and the English-language book and video library can help keep you sane if you're stuck here in winter.
The bar attracts a younger crowd late nights on weekends, especially when there's a DJ or band. It can get a little wild (in a fun way), and it's a great time to meet and party with locals.

A fantastic cafe located on a typical cobbled road in Chão de Meninos, São Pedro de Sintra. Great coffee and cakes.
A traditional Portuguese period building tastefully restored in a rustic style. Choose from cushioned windowseats in the interior or sitting in the shade on the esplanade.
An excellent range of traditional pastries and cakes is available throughout the day, and at lunchtime, hot and cold meals are served with a selection of local wines. Don't miss it.

An organic bakery and cafe selling fresh, tasty food, with cosy atomsphere and friendly service. By far the healthest place in the east end of Glasgow, a place notorious for poor health statistics. It's fun too - worth the trip.

A bar specialising in beer - but not the usual fare from large brewers or multinationals. Yes, it does offer these brands but its speciality is more obscure (in the UK at least) beers form smaller foreign brewers - Kolsch, eastern European, etc. Friendly atmosphere, spacious inside, and nice views of the world going by. Try!

A relatively tourist-free little cafe by day, it turns into a hipster hangout by night, complete with great indie music, awesome barstaff, and pretty much just cool, laid back Riga kids. I definitely recommend it, but only if you don't act like a tourist when you visit - that would totally ruin what an awesome place it is!
If you need to absorb the excess of the night before, or stock up before a day in town, get a full breakfast here. This is Glasgow/Italian fusion cuisine at its best; no nonsense, honest and affordable. The Italian sausage is fantastic and the coffee is how it should be.

There's one in Rhodes Town about a 2minute walk from the bus station, down the road from Mothercare. There's also a branch on the main street in Pefkos.
