    Au Moulin de la Malène

Posted by surferal 2 June 2009

My family and I (2 children aged four and five) stumbled into this place by accident while driving across France the summer before last. We hired two canoes at La Malène and descended the river Tarn. The Tarn Gorges are the deepest gorges to be found anywhere in Europe and the scenery is breathtaking. There are quite a few campsites dotted along this stretch of the river and we ended up staying in one of them. In the evening, as the children were fishing by the river bank, an eagle flew past us with a snake in its beak - magic. There is also a lot to do in the area, from rock climbing to visiting castles or just watching the many vultures that visit this part of the world in summer.

    Canoe-France

Posted by annejam 30 May 2009

Canoeing down the River Orb, under a blue sky, water sparkling around us, shimmering hills to the left and shady trees on our right, was probably the brightest of many highlights of a month spent in France last summer.
Canoes and kayaks can be hired from Roquebrun, with a choice of excursions ranging from a gentle ninety minute meander, to a three day 'adrenelin' descent. We chose a five hour trip, which involved a few minor gorges, just enough to make us feel a tinge of recklessness. Our route had many lovely sandy bays, perfect for stopping and having a picnic, swimming or snoozing. The arrival back at the canoe base gave us a stunning view of Roquebrun. It's an impossibly pretty village, which sprawls up the cliffs above the Orb.
We stayed in Les Mimosas, a splendid 19th century maison de maitre, in Roquebrun and fell in love with it from the moment we saw it.

A great trip between a canyon and a large beach. Have a nice time passing under the Pont du Gard with your road book explaining all secrets of this amazing place.

A self-catering annexe apartment for two, within easy walking distance of the train. You can take a bike, hire a canoe, or visit the alternative and wacky town of Totnes where Riverford Farm foods originated. Everything is organic and green. Little riverside allows you to go for a wild swim in the river right outside the door! Hire a canoe and go shopping down the river or to the pub. Great cafes and pub grub.

Near the sea and near the moors - fantastic situation for everything. Great carbon-free getaway for two.

Fly to Nimes from Stansted. Hire a car and stay at Atelier des Granges. This is officially a backpackers place, but has double rooms and is a great place for a family. It is also like staying in an art gallery.

One of the best places I have stayed, ever. Very friendly and helped us with the locals and food and great views of the village church on the cliff opposite.

One of the best action adventure trips and at a really low cost you will not regret it. Book it now and do it just before the season opens.

    Hongs by Starlight

Posted by kama 22 March 2007

Its a all-day trip (about 11 - 10pm) run by John Grey Sea Canoes, that takes you into the beatutiful hongs of Phang Nga Bay. It is a truly spiritual journey that is away from the crowds, and is the only trip that allows you to experience this magical world after sunset.

Pick up is from your hotel, and you are provided with complimentary food and drink all day (the food is great also). You have only 2 people per canoe plus your own personal guide. This company has won so many awards ... and with good reason.

Canoe safaris on the Ord river

Posted by lucyd 29 August 2006

Spend three days away from it all canoeing from Lake Argyle to Kununurra – paddling through spectacular scenery surrounded by birds and wildlife and swimming in water so clear you can drink it.

The trips are self guided for groups of two or more – you’re supplied with all the equipment you need (canoes, coolbox, storage barrels, camping kit), dropped off and given a map then you paddle at your own pace. The map shows places to stop off along the way (waterfalls, gorges) as well as the bush campsites where you sleep under the stars. An amazing experience.

Run by the Kununurra Backpackers Adventure Centre.

    Lake Louise

Posted by ColvilleAndersen 6 November 2005

I would bet the farm that more postcards have been sold with pictures of Lake Louise than any other destination in Canada. A stunning hotel overlooking the perfect lake.

Rent a canoe or go for a long walk along the path around the lake. Braver souls can hike to the Tea House for a cuppa in nature's proudest surroundings.

And hour and a half from Banff by car. The railroad chugs past if you choose the rail solution between Calgary and Vancouver.
