    Casa Particular Brunilda

Posted by ChrisOC 24 January 2011

In a town replete with casas particulares it is hard to stand out in Vinales, but Casa Brunilda manages it handily. Aside from the nice room and outdoor sitting area, the main reason is the woman herself: Brunilda has a great sense of humour, loves to chat, and is the best cook in Cuba. Seriously. Each meal was a banquet, made all the more remarkable by the fact that it was all whipped up on stoves in the back garden. Insist on trying the bean soup...

We arrived at Alberto's via his friend around the corner, who's guests had opted to extend their stay. Alberto arrived on his little scooter and we followed behind in our car to his lovely home.

He gave us directions to a fab little restaurant slighlty out of town, and also to the main square.

He suggested that we opt for secure parking, and again we followed the little scooter to an overnight facility. The rate was clearly signposted, and next morning we returned to pick up our car. I didn't get the impression that car theft is a huge problem but it was nice not to have to think about ( and cost very little).

Amneris was away when we there, but I would have been surprised if she could have prepared a better breakfast. After a good night's sleep, lovely breakfast and directions to Che's old stomping ground we headed off.

Before we hit the road for Havana we popped back to Alberto's to use the loo, which he was happy for us to do. Both rooms were already prepared for the next lucky guests.

Just 50 metres from Plaza Mayor, this casa particular has a nice room with ensuite bathroom, aircon and 24hr hot water. Outside is a small patio where you can hear music from Casa de Musica. Lovely family and great Cuban food. Owner happy to help with tours.

Rogelio and his wife are the warm and friendly hosts of this beautiful, colonial casa particular (B&B). Right in the centre of Trinidad old town, this 18th century house is filled with antiques and original features. Huge iron beds, original wooden floors and tall windows make it a truly romantic place to stay. From the roof terrace you can enjoy beautiful views over the rooftops and up to the mountains while watching the sun setting at an amazing speed over the horizon. Just 20 minutes by car or taxi to a palm-fringed, white sand beach, on one side of town and the jungle-covered mountains on the other, this casa is perfectly placed for exploring the best Trinidad has to offer. Book in advance as this place is very popular!

    Gay-friendly casa particular

Posted by vimipa 11 August 2006

It's not easy to find gay-friendly casas particulares in Cuba, but I have a great time in Havana, thanks largely to the owner of the apartment I stay in. He goes out of his way to help, and I really feel at home there. The place really is gay-friendly and I feel completely at ease there. It's in Havana Centro, just 15 minutes from the Malecon and from Coppelia, two areas where people gather to meet friends and stroll about (and which are also the two most popular cruising areas). Habana Vieja (Old Havana), where there are many historical monuments, theatres, museums etc. is also within walking distance. He charges 25 CUC a day per room, with AC, a private bathroom and a fridge in your room. He speaks English too. If you've never been to Havana before Jorge will also show you around these places the first time you go there, if you want. He doesn't normally offer meals but I asked and he does for me, and I am very satisfied with the food. I thoroughly recommend the place, it really makes my trips extra special! Of course, women are very welcome there too.

    Casa Rosita

Posted by PierreLittbarski 11 August 2006

Casa Rosita is a casa particular on the fifth storey of a typical communist, cement apartment block with a fantastic view of the city. Located in Vedado on Ave.23 it is easy to get around from there. Rooms are very big and comfortable with air conditioning and hot water.

Nearby is the paladar 'el hueco' which gives big portions for reasonable prices. They will also cook you delicious lobster at Rosita's if you wish.
