The food contains no MSG and is always light, fresh tasting, and un-greasy; and the menu includes a number of uncommon dishes. Peter, the owner/chef, makes his own curry powder, for example, using it in his curried beef rolls.
It is only the second Chinese restaurant I've been to that knows how to make a decent lemon chicken.
I've eaten there many times and cannot praise it highly enough.
It's a very small, very simple, very modest place, but if you want good Chinese food in Victoria, it's the place to go.

I'd like to recommend it as I've been there numerous times, with my boyfriend, family, friends and for a takeaway meal, and I just cannot fault it. Owner/chef George Lai speaks excellent English and will be happy to help with recommendations. Particularly outstanding are the steamed pork with salt fish, steamed pomfret or kurau (threadfin) fish, the bittergourd with salted egg yolk and the fish head in a sour spicy sauce. Also very good, but spicy, is the fish with black beans and chilli.

Not the most elegant place but excellent food.
Maybe I'm missing it on the guide to Manchester, but I can't find it! Is it because everyone thinks it's so good that it doesn't need a rec? A few years ago, the then Times food writer (Mathew Norman?) described The Yang Sing as one of the best restaurants in Britain; no, not one of the best Chinese restaurants, but one of the very best.
Unless that's changed dramatically (I've been out of the UK for a couple of years), I entirely agree. Terrific dim sum, a huge choice for dinner, and they also are a marvellous place for Chinese New Year, but also Christmas. And also very helpful staff.
I love some of the restaurants near Leicester Square, but The Yang Sing, for me, is probably the best Chinese restaurant in Europe, if not the best outside Hong Kong.

It's like nowhere else in London. Some might say sanitised and boring, but I'd disagree. If you're tired of the hustle and bustle of central London hop on the Jubilee line, or, even better, the DLR, and come over. Great waterside eating and drinking (dimsum at Royal China is fantastic, and not too costly), super tall buildings, and expensive subterreanean shops. Whilst it is certainly not the weekend ghost town of earlier years, it still feels much calmer than London proper on a Saturday or Sunday.
In the summer especially there are often good free events in the small parks that are dotted around, such as concerts on Friday evenings, and films sometimes on Saturdays.

If you're coming with children then combine your visit with Mudchute City Farm down in the Isle of Dogs. It has cows, goats and guinea pigs, plus a riding school.
