Club Space

Posted by Sissi 5 June 2008

Miami is renowned for its party atmosphere and dance clubs. And what better way to experience this than at Club Space?

Regular DJs include Deep Dish, Roger Sanchez and Eric Prydz (who I’ve been lucky enough to catch) and this huge club is always packed full of revelers dancing the night away!

Its reputation as one of the best dance clubs in the States attracts an excitable crowd that are often visitors from other cities meaning there is plenty of opportunity to make new friends if you feel the need to take a break from raving…

Tickets aren’t the cheapest but they’re worth the price, especially considering just how many hours of entertainment you get in one night – it even has a 24 hour license.

Laid back but stylish large multi-level bar, in Sydney CBD. Better on weekdays. Tuesday salsa night is pretty hot - great dancing guys and girls, charged and sexy.

Main bar can have occasional losers, but mostly good. Service can be tricky, but atmosphere is worth it. Upstairs, chilled-out Hemmesphere bar is about lounging, cushions, cigars, good wine, good staff - all in all a good spot. Where Sydney unwinds.

Beware tango shows

Posted by hendo 19 March 2008

Beware some of the tango shows in Buenos Aires that are recommended by your hotel. Bar Sur in San Telmo and Mandera Tango in the port area of BA are a rip off and are tourist traps.

For example, they will try and give you a poor seat with a bad view for you to upgrade to the 'VIP' area. They include a poor dinner with horrible house wine then con you to have a photo taken with two of the tango dancers who they say appear in the show then you never see them again.

They'll also offer you a cocktail for 40 pesos which is three times the price of any cocktail anywhere else. Bar Sur charges 210 pesos per person for the dinner and show in one of the tightest floor spaces in BA. Then the drinks are double the price of anywhere else in BA. If you want to see tango choose very carefully.

Clärchens Ballhaus

Posted by emi05 8 March 2008

Berlin in a nutshell. Peculiar mix of people - 70 year-old ladies in old-fashioned evening dresses and gentlemen in suits, urban bummers in Hugo Boss as well as crazy hipsters are to be seen in this old ballroom (existed since 1913) in the centre of Berlin.

Situated in a scraped building surrounded by numerous art galleries, the place was visited by Tom Cruise during his search for old-fashioned shooting locations for the film 'Valkyrie'. Good food and delicious home-made cakes. Music changes depending on the day (cha cha, swing, waltz and tango). In the summer, the garden is an additional attraction.

If you walk down the Auguststr (Berlin Mitte), you'll spot an enchanting garden and the scraped building behind it.

Maya London

Posted by PenelopeSmith 22 February 2008

So over the cheesy West End clubs? Try Maya. We had such an amazing time, it was heaving until the early hours. What time does this venue shut?! It was great for celeb spotting and dancing if you like obscure 80s tracks and Euro dance favourites. Definitely an asset to central London!

Casa Rosa Cultural

Posted by mannfredweiss 1 February 2008

Me and some friends went to Rio last week and we had such a great time there. We really liked the people down there, very warm and kind. The beaches were simply amazing, it was just awesome to get up and walk a few blocks… and bam! You’re in the middle of a beautiful beach! We had the guts to also try the very popular samba, In a place called Casa Rosa Cultural. It’s a hidden place, I guess, but one of the greatest spots there. Plenty of samba lessons, and also some ‘circles’ of it, many great people to know. This trip was the best ever!

Cape Tribulation sky at night

Posted by Dowson 20 December 2007

The southern night sky was an amazing sight from Cape Tribulation beach as we danced in the dark at the instigation of Martin, owner of the Dragonfly Restaurant, driver of the Cape Trib shuttle, guide for the half-day Daintree Experience, and all-round Aussie gem. Never has the night seemed so dark or the stars so many, so bright and so close.

Casa Rosa Cultural

Posted by sabinekunert 30 November 2007

Rio de Janeiro is quite an amazing place. Imagine a huge, antique house that used to be a brothel (a fancy one) in one of the cutest neighborhoods of the city. Many decades after its closure, the house now keeps the same name, Casa Rosa, from the old times, but has nothing to do with prostitution anymore.

Nowadays, its a place that offers so many attractions you wouldn't believe. During the day, it operates as a cultural centrr with awesome classes for tourists. There you can learn, as a total beginner, with few classes, the samba dance and the capoeira.

If you think you will never get the way to manage such beautiful movements, you are mistaken!

At nights the place also works as a nightclub, with Brazilian sounds mainly. At Sundays, they offer samba with feijoada, the national and lovely dish included. A must!

Hideaway

Posted by diegotrujillo 29 October 2007

Hideaway is a pizzaria and lounge in Laranjeiras, Rio de Janeiro. The place successfully combines a nice thin and crispy pizza with a big and modern place, full of young and beautiful people.

They also have shows (pop, Brazilian, jazz music) and a dance floor that mixes many styles of music. A complete night!

Studio de l`Ermitage

Posted by Jane Booty 4 October 2007

Studio de l`Ermitage is in Montelimontant - easy to access by metro; to me it was a mixture of where I imagine locals in the know would go, a whiff of old Paris and a private fantasy all rolled into a laid back music venue.

The night I went there was a bal musette, and these are organised on a monthly basis, among an interesting programme of old, new and live music - some partygoers dressed for the occasion to add to the ambience, but if you hadn't, you didnt feel out of place.

The atmoshere was lively, with a fantastic sense of enjoyment and fun. People of all ages danced together and it was a treat to watch and be part of something reflecting the spirit of Paris.

Hotels in Lalibela

Posted by oldlacer 27 September 2007

In Lalibela we stayed at Blue Lal Hotel and at Yemhera Hotel.

The Yemhera has bungalows in the grounds and you can wander in the grounds without harassment. We visited the Blue Lal most days for toast and honey.

Lalibela is also the place to sample Tej, a honey wine, while enjoying the local music and dancing, an experience in itself.

Pressé for time

Posted by Andy Talbot 25 September 2007

Establish your Citron/Orange Pressé per n100 metres requirements before you arrive, in summer. We gauged ambient temperature/distance walked by the number we consumed in any given day.

Does one dance 'sur' ou 'sous' le pont? Do both to be safe. You've already got 'Anglais' written on your forehead, so odd behaviour is expected anyway. Loved it.
