Vegetarian and Sushi Cafe/Restaurant

Posted by MaxT 24 September 2007

If you fancy a bit of a change of food while in Alghero then Ko De Kap Sushi and vegetarian cafe is fantastic. The modern decor is great, staff really friendly and food delicious.

It's closed Mondays and limited menu on Tuesday lunchtimes. They also do takeaway. We were really pleased to find it - sure this is a top tip for an area where the range of types of food is a bit limited; especially for veggies.

Via Asfodelo 35, Alghero. It's opposite the marina; you can see the sign if you look across the road and on the other side of a large car park.

Maida Indian Eatery

Posted by Foodfish 23 September 2007

A breath of fresh air on the Indian dining scene, just round the corner from Brick Lane on Bethnal Green Road, but so different.

Fantastically fresh food, cooked in an open kitchen in front of you, and they do not use artificial food colouring and use fish from sustainable sources. Their lamb chops are to die for, and the Tandoori Raan (leg of lamb) is the best I ever had, and to top it up the chocolate milkshakes (Jay Rayner's recommendation in Observer) were spot on.

Kushi Indian Flavour Restaurant

Posted by ismith 23 September 2007

Just opened, Kushi Indian Flavour Restaurant (strange name) presents seriously good Indian food in a restaurant setting that has some class. Nice seating, crisp white tableclothes and super service from the young black-clad waiting staff.

The wine list has been well thought out and there is also a good range of beers (which suit Indian food). A choice of the various Indian breads are offered on the menu. Vegetarians are not forgotten with quite a few selections in the Entree and Mains area of the menu.

Arti

Posted by hardworking 22 September 2007

This is Roundhay/Harehill's up and coming restaurant, and extremely good value. The secret is out, because these days Arti is getting a full house and is popular with white and Asian customers alike.

Arti offers some south Indian fare such as dhosa and idli as well as the more standard Indian dishes; warning - the starters are huge and really delicious.

Arti started his restaurant a couple of years back, is very friendly, keen to find out what the customer thinks. This boy's going places! It's a hard act to follow - we've moved to a different city and still looking for an Arti replacement.

The Bluebell, Henley in Arden

Posted by JaneHarrington 21 September 2007

Had several very good sunday lunches at The Bluebell - in addition to the normal menu they have one of the best Sunday roasts I have ever eaten.

But there is more to The Bluebell than just the wonderful food, the building is all old timbers and very higgledy-piggledy, service is always very friendly and cheerful - not at all snooty and best of all they serve Cloudy Bay (the most wonderful NZ Sauvignon Blanc) by the glass - my favourite!

The Three Fishes

Posted by barworkisnowaytolive 21 September 2007

This is the ultimate real food, real ale pub with roasts that will blow your socks off. In the middle of essentially not a lot in Lancashire, it's a cosy log fire and half of cider affair, but with exceptional food courtesy of Nigel Harworth.

Based on classic British cooking and local produce, the roasts are great, but more than that try out the local specialities, including my favourite, the Lancashire hot pot with pickled red cabbage. It's not only better than mum's, its better than any roast hands down!

King William IV

Posted by EscapedApe 21 September 2007

An excellent place to refuel before tackling the steep climb up Box Hill, the King William IV pub in Mickleham, near Dorking, has excellent roast dinners on Sunday.

The standard menu is also worth travelling for though (see their website), and as Saturday lunch is less crowded than Sunday, there's no need to limit yourself to one day of the weekend.

Parking can be a problem (the pub is up a narrow lane, but there is parking on the main road), but once you get there, there is a lovely beer garden, with stunning views over the Mole Valley. Named best pub in Surrey three years in a row.

The Mogul Indian Restaurant

Posted by CuccyP 21 September 2007

It's a fantastic Indian restaurant: its curries have actually been flown out to Europe by people who've tasted them and can't live without them, and there are always lengthy queues for a takeaway and a table at the weekend.

It serves all the `standard' dishes extremely well, together with a wide range of its own specialities - the fish dishes and the Balti curries are particularly good. Service is friendly and efficient.

The Tiffin Room

Posted by chotinho 20 September 2007

The Tiffin Room is a bit of an anomaly - a classy Indian restaurant in the land of cream teas and ice-creams, otherwise known as the Isle of Wight.

It's attached to Bonchurch Manor, a B&B housed in a smart Victorian house with sea views but you don't have to be a guest to eat there. The food is delicious - the masala dosa was the best I've tasted and sea bass cooked in coconut, tamarind and coriander was fantastic.

Standard curry house fare is often too rich and heavy but this food - cooked by B&B owner Shuba Rao - is light and delicately spiced.
The wine list - chosen by Shuba's husband Mark - impressive too and amazingly good value.

Kebab place, because they have real chicken tikka (not that rubbish on a stick). Top naan breads and tasty salad to go with it, I recommend it with all the salad and yogurt and mango chutney.
